I am going to take my intake off to clean it up real good. Will the gaskets that are under the runners where they meet the motor, be ok or are there and gaskets there?

Yes, there are metal gaskets. If you are taking your intake off to clean it "real good" ( wink ), then you want to totally disassemble it anyway, and should be buying FelPro Gasket Set MS94831 for about $46 from Autozone. It comes with the paper gaskets for the intake and the metal gaskets for between the heads & the intake.

Then don't take apart the runners. The way I feel about reusing the metal intake manifold to head gaskets is that if you don't have a new set ready to go in there then you'll find that is the time that the black paint has decided to flake off of the installed gaskets. In other words always make sure you have a set of new replacement metal intake gaskets before starting that job. Once you've got the intake removed then you can decide whether you want to reuse the installed gaskets or not.

There is not much to be gained by disassembling the runners from the plenums. If you don't touch all of the hose clamps on the rubber connectors then the intake will fit back on the heads much easier. The lowest price and source for the Motorcraft E9DZ-9439-A intake manifold gaskets (2 req) is FordPartsOnline.com at $12.14 each. Check your home email.

Oops, I read what you said wrong. Since you already have a set of gaskets for the intake manifold pieces then you can just buy two intake manifold to head gaskets from FPN for I think $10.50 each or so. Shipping's a flat $7 so if you can think of any other motorcraft parts you need then that would be a good time to buy them. Maybe a new upper and lower radiator hose?
