How hard would it be to make the rear windows go all the way down? Is it illegal.
I wanted to just take out any stoppers there are and put in the motor and tracks from front windows. Been Done?

Can't be done with the shape of the rear doors, just not enough room in there.
What he said. The wheel well is in the way and the window just won't have any place to go.

That's why alot of the newer cars have a split in the rear window if the wheel-well protrudes into the door too much, i.e., grand prix's. That way the majority of the window will still go down all or at least most of the way. I guess it MIGHT be possible to cut down the existing window and put a split in it, assuming the tracks and all are still functional. But then you would have 3 windows behind the B-pillars and that might look a bit "busy."

Some cars like the Subaru Legacy have it so that the rear windows tilt forward as they go down so that more of the window fits in the door.

I think that looks a bit strange though, as if the window has partially fallen off the track.

Like others have said, the window rolls down only halfway because that is all the fits. This was never intended as a safety feature. A small child would fit through the window if it were halfway down anyway.

Non-split windows provide *slightly* better visibility, splits go all the way down. No real safety features or new technologies between them, even rotating the glass has been around for a long time. Ford chose to go non-split because they were aiming for a clean exterior appearance.
