So my wife was driving the other day and the rear sunshade decided to pop up. She hit the button and it would go all the way down and then immediately go back up again. So now my sunshade is stuck in the up position which sucks for night driving. The Ford service guy told me the same thing happened to his Lincoln. Ford said a new motor was $900 (not sure if that included install) and he said they were unable to put it in the down position.

My car is over 36,000 by the time I took it in (was on a long trip) so the warranty may or may not cover it and won't find out until next week. I'm gonna be really ****** when they will probably tell me it'll cost a couple hundred just to put it in the down position.

If it really is 900 bucks plus...and not under warranty, I would simply remove it.

I think the motor is this:

MOTORCRAFT Part # MM1093 Backside - $90.89

That's from Rock Auto.

That's crazy! What happens when you shift into reverse?

It goes down and then comes back up.

That says 'sunROOF' motor.

I tried pushing it down, but when I start the car up it comes back up. I will try pushing it down after I start the car and see what happens.

I wish mine did that. Bugs me that I have to open the access door and put the shade back up after I put the car in reverse. Seems to me it should default to the last position. Therefore if it was up, then it could go down while reversing and then return to the UP position. I would leave it.

Mine started doing this and it is annoying as all heck. They dont go all the way up, it sags somewhere between up and down, and just "pops" back up when you put it down. I have 35K and she just got dropped off the an alignment. Already called dealer and reported before 36 and hope to drop it off this week.

How long did the dealer take to fix yours? (assuming you had the dealer do it). Mine has been at the dealer since Tuesday. I have been in a Focus that is OK but it stinks, and is slow as ****. They said today they got the part in but it wasnt installed..... How hard can it be?

Got the low down in case anybody is interested. They went ahead and did it, just picked it up.
Service manager said the hold was do to the power sun shade being on the infamous "call first" list Ford put out in March. They had not gotten "permission" to replace it yet, but they went ahead anyway since it had a pretty obvious malfunction. Just an FYI.

Had mine replaced recently around 32K miles. Mine was stuck in the down position, but did something very frightening the first time and pretty much every time put in reverse. It would try to go down when it was already down, so it made a very loud pounding noise as if someone was beating on your car. It even scared the service writer at Ford when he put it into reverse.;)

My sunroof sunshade is manually operated. Did I get a lemon? :)

LOL. I have 2 power sunroof sunshades (plus the rear window shade) in the MKS. I am guessing that is because there are two sunroofs in the MKS. I had forgotten I was on the SHO forum. LOL.

I know this is an old post, but is there a write up on how to remove the assembly? Yesterday mine made a thud and now is stuck half way up. If I push it down, it pops right back up. I can hear the motor turning but it won't open or close. I have a feeling a cable or something snapped, but I don't know how to get to it.
