I've searched on this forum and others but cannot find my exact issue, which is the sun shade is stuck in the up position. It was working fine and then yesterday would not go down when I was in reverse. The button does nothing when pushed. I only hear a faint click noise when it is pressed. I saw that the fuse for this is the same one for the driver heated seat, among a few other things, but the heated seat works. I don't need to use it. If there is some way I can manually lower it that would be fine. I'll never touch the button again!! Seems like quite a pain to take it all apart. I have a hard time just cleaning the inside of the rear windows.

any advice is appreciated. Last ditch effort would be to go pay the $200 deductible and have it fixed under the ESP, assuming it is covered.

The gears are stripped. You can likely get it to lower if you hold the button down for several minutes while the remaining gear teeth engage. Then unplug the stupid thing.

If you'd like to fix it there's a link below for the part to replace the motor with the broken teeth. It's the same part as the sunroof motor. I just replaced mine and clipped the wire that's connected to the reverse auto-down function. Now it only goes up and down at the push of the button. I don't remember where I found the walkthrough post, but it's not very difficult at all. You just need to remove the rear seat and the rear window deck covering to access the sunshade.

Thank you so so much for your recommendation that I would have never thought of. It took about 5 minutes of holding it down for a few minutes. I was about to give up, tapped it one more time and it just went down!! I would unplug it if it was easier than ripping off the package tray so I will just never ever touch that button again!

If you can point me to the walkthrough I would like to unplug it depending on the level of difficulty. I am 6'5" so just cleaning the inside of the back window can be a challenge!

Here's the write up that I used. Once you get the rear seat out you open up a lot of space. You'll probably want a pillow to kneel on while you're back there. Make sure not to put weight on the oval black covers.
