Washed car yesterday, air dried it by driving, backup cam worked fine yesterday evening. I park my car in a car port where it is outside but is covered at the same time. Not sure if water got in, cold air causing the issue or what. The backup system works fine to warn me of close objects but the cam won’t come on the apim and says cam not available contact dealer. Anyone have a fix for this other than turn settings for cam on and off like the advanced display and the delay. Heard a harness could be loose but not sure what is going on here. These newer cars and their electrical systems and reliance on software. Any and all help is appreciated.

I would try unplugging/replugging it in the trunk first. Then a master reset of the sync unit. Finally a battery disconnect for 30 minutes.

Is that as easy as removing the felt paneling in the back of the trunk to get to it and unplugging it then and then letting it sit?

Well did that, left it unplugged and back in, that didn’t fix it. Unplug negative terminal for a half and it didn’t fix it either. To the dealer.

That sucks. Make sure to update what the problem/fix was. Maybe that will help someone else out down the road.

When you unplugged it did you happen to look at the contacts on each plug for corrosion?

Seeing as you have 15, I am not surprised the camera has failed. Ford cameras have a tendency to have shorter than desired life expectancy.

Ford has a massive recall on rear facing cameras covering their entire vehicle lineup. Call your dealer and make an appointment. Most of them are on backorder so you'll need to take your car in to get it in line.

Do you have details on this recall? I have not heard of it. The only camera recall I know of is for many of the 2020 vehicles.

Yeah there was no corrosion, no frayed wires. I unhooked battery for 20 mins, then reconnected, let it sit overnight and it works fine today. I ran in through the gamut and it’s good. Best guess is software/electrical issue because I’ve noticed in other fords I’ve had where of a vehicle is shit off quickly after putting a car in park or there is an abrupt interruption in power, it can cause issue. This camera is powered by a fuse so to my the power method for that is t the best but I get it it is in a car and not plugged into 110 in a wall...lol. I feel that it was just a minor mishap is all. These cars today are so dependent on computer systems, cross communication and modules constantly talking and batteries and alternators are under heavier load. The car has. 1000 CCA battery in it. That’s big for a car but prob standard in this day and age and I looked under the hood of a fully loaded limited of the same year and it has everything a sho has minus the performance package and I mean every option available and it’s only a 850 CCA so it makes me wonder is my battery overkill for the car my guess is no but who cares, just food for thought, not looking to argue about it.

There is a high failure rate on these. Echoing Chad's post above, I thought there was a recall or at least a replacement tsb on a bunch of models over the years. He works at a Ford Service place so he has access to part/recall/tsb bulletins

I’ve check the actual Ford recall site amongst many other sites for recalls and have not come up with that other than the 2020 recall. There is no official recall for my car, my vin, or my model, year etc. however anyone wants to classify it. No recall for camera!!

Not being an ******* by that post either so don’t misinterpret it anyone. Just stating the facts of someone scrolls this post and thinks there is one from the comments above this is to confirm it doesn’t cause I’ve been left wondering and thinking things with no answer in sight.

Could be absolutely correct. I note alot of failures on many Ford vehicles. That's not an actual safety feature (unless requirements have changed) so I'm surprised there is a recall at all. Maybe for brand new owners to keep them pacified.

Backup cameras have been mandatory on all new vehicles since 2018, so I'd consider them a safety feature and thus should be covered free of charge after that date. Not that I'd trust Ford (or any other manufacturer, honestly) to go out of their way to cover them. ****, I had to buy new lugnuts for my daughter's Fusion because the factory ones are defective and deformed. There is a class action suit about that now.
