Re-doing my Fogs

Ok, so my 89 has got its stock foglights. I dont plan on buying new ones, so I just want to wire them diffrently to stop all the power from running through the MFS . I know that the wiring to one of them is shakey because if I turn them on, it wont turn on unless I touch the cable . So, I was planning on setting up a direct to battery relay harness to use on them. I want to connect the lead that works and use that one to turn both of them on. I plan on setting up the harness with a relay and with power going straight from the battery to the lights. Thing is I want to keep the stock switch. Is it possible ? Also, anybody know the wire setup of the fog switch on an 89? Its diffrent from the later years. Thanks

I had that problem with my 91, and for me the problem was just that the stock fogs are crap. I had to mess with the wire and the contacts on the lamp to get them to come on. The ground always comes off and they always get water in them. I would just get new ones. I got PIAA 15xt's and they're awesome.

Autozone sells a nice set that are bright as heck for 20 bucks...... I got them for mine, they look sweet too. Mine are so bright that i can use them for headlights if i wanted to. As i type this i cant remember what brand they are but its posted in my sig so just look at that if your interested

Well seeing as how he's from NYC, I don't think he'd want to give up his rear defroster as described in that link... Why anyone would want to do that is perplexing.


Simply wire up a relay like this;

Pin 85 Ground
Pin 86 OEM Fog lamp wire from the car
Pin 87 B+
Pin 30 Fog lamps

Note that I said '89 switch INFO zzzzz

The '89 has an '89 exclusive fog lamp/switch setup.

Also, not everyone/everywhere needs rear defrost.

lol, irreguardless of the OEM switch setup....my instructions on how to wire a SPDT relay will suffice and will not incur any alterations to the factory dash harness. Oh, and you still get to keep your rear defroster working as how it was intended by the bright intellectuals at FOMOCO.

Even with the defrost on in NYC the widow fogs up, so imagine. I wouldnt give up the defrost for nothing.

Yep, the Pilot PL-2055C, $19.99 at AutoZone: 55W bulbs, SAE approved glass lenses (legal on-road), can be attached to the stock mounting ****** (with metal tubing spacers on the long bolts to move the mounting plate farther forward).
