Something is slapping against the roof between the headliner and back roof.
Sounds like a flapping cable, or something.

Assuming this is not part of the moonroof track or sunshade, because the noise is present in either open or closed positions. Nothing dangerous, just annoying.

So to get at that space, we take off the fixtures screwed into the roof, pull back the door trim, and then what? Are there clips or adhesive fasteners that get lunched when you pull the liner down? Or are they barbed clips that hold it up in place... I have enough shaggy parts as-is, without the liner hanging down...

I'd check the rear window trim (exterior) first if I were you. The lower trim on my car makes one heck of a racket when the wind gets under it.

Do yourself a favor and duct, or 3m blue painters masking tape the trim around the window to seal it good against the wind and then take it out for a spin. That's how I pinpointed what exactly was causing similar sound with my car. Once you've determined whether it's the trim or not, remove the tape.

Either way, it's a lot easier than dropping the headliner to start your seach for the source.

Bring it up to the next breakfast and we'll give you a hand.

i once dropped one of the moonroof screws in the cavity that the moonroof rides in. Annoying was an understatement. it must have got lodged somewhere because after a while the noise dissapeared.
