I have the JBL factory system and I checked all of the fuses already.
Any pointers? Is there 1 or 2 amps in the back? Should i just replace them?

There is 1 amp for the 4 speakers and 1 amp for the sub.

Have you tried turning the volume all the way up to see if you can hear anything? You may hear it really faint.

Is there any noise/static coming from the speakers when you turn it up?

Mine would do that and it was a loose connector on the amps in the trunk.

Well I checked all the connection in the trunk yesterday and they were fine.
I have not tried turning it up all the way. I will do that this evening and report my findings.

If you hear static and static only, then that would tell me that your amps are on, and they are getting no signal from the head unit.

If you hear the radio/music faintly then the signal is making it back to the amps, but the signal is not getting amplified. The cause of this can be a few things...and actually one thing on the head unit.

Ok, i listened a little closer today. What i have heard is:
Very faint static.
A very faint popping noise as the head unit is trying to search for FM stations.
A very faint tone noise as i push the preset buttons on the head unit.
You can only hear those things when the volume is turned up all the way.

I will admit to being a little hard of hearing :nut:
Loud music and air tools will do that.

Anybody have any suggestions?

Could very well be the factory headunit has clocked out. Both factory units in my dads 93 and my 95 went bad. Would make a weird popping noise whena adjusting volume, bass, treb, etc. Most of the time there would be no music from the speakers unless the volume was cranked all the way up...then suddenly, one or two would pop to life.

Do yourself a favor regardless and get a new aftermarket headunit, you'll just love listening to music in your SHO so much more.

The connector in the back of the deck that goes to the cd player may need cleaned. I took my cd player out and then bridged the connector with paperclips and taped it up. It allows the signal to be sent to the amplifiers. I had the trouble with that and then fiddled with the connector when the radio was on and the sound would go back and forth. Its a black connector with a cable to the cd player, rectangular in shape.

I had the same problem.
I replaced the factory head unit with a Pioneer.
Still no sound.
I used an amp bypass harness and ... sound.
My amp was bad.

Well, I have a couple of aftermarket head units laying around. I guess I could try one of those first. Is there a harness I can use to bypass the amp to the rear deck and front door speakers?

Or is there an adapter harness i need to use to hook up to my existing oem harnesses to see if the factory amps are working?

I just rplace the head unit and speakers with some Eclipse 6.5's and 6 x 8's. I did remove the factory amps and head unit and put them in a trash can  . I am in the process of installing an amp and a Fosgate 10" sub in the factory sub box.
On a side note: you do not need any harnesses of any kind when installing an aftermarket head unit and speakers. That is providing you are not using the factory amps, which are junk anyway IMO.
