During the 12 years of owning this SHO I never had an issue with no sound through the speakers or the sound system in general, until tonight.....

I installed a NOS factory premium sound CD player (radio head unit) out of a 2000 Contour in place of the original factory premium sound CD player (radio head unit). I get the new unit in, slide in a CD, and expect to hear sound but hear absolutely nothing (AM/FM too). At first I thought the 2000 Contour unit is not compatible with a `92 SHO. I remove the 2000 unit and reinstall the original but still have no sound. Both units have full power and all functions work properly. Nothing else was touched or affected. I did all of this with the power on and engine running.....

Of course this happens two days before I drive 21 hours to FL....

I will double check everything today but positive nothing was overlooked, hence why I became beyond irritated. Jelloslug, if you refer to the jumper cable between the radio head unit (usually with cassette) player to the slave CD player unit there is none. I have the CD player with radio all in one. The other slot in the dash has the coin tray and worthless cup holder......

I'm now curious: do the factory amps have fuses?

There should be a shorting plug in the spot where the slave CD player wiring would be connected, even on the AM/FM CD player. It will look like this:

Try this: Turn the radio on and turn it all the way up. If you hear the radio playing very faintly the amps are on. I would also check the two connectors that are inside the dash to the left of the radio opening that look like the big power connector for the radio. They should both have another connector plugged in to them.

Thanks for the info. I will try my best to find time today to check everything again. If not today tomorrow morning for sure. There is no way I am driving 21 hours without music.....

I found the problem. One of the wires to the main plug broke off, grrrr. Thanks for the help errbody......

On a side note: what is this plug for? It looks identical to the plug going to the unit and is just sitting there in a holder.....

It's for the non-premium radio. Side note: If you ever put an aftermarket headunit in use that connector. There is another one like it in there that will give you access to the speakers without having to do anything in the trunk.
