I really like my 225/50/16 Avon Tech R's. They have a 13xx lb load rating and are a steal through tire rack. I want to get 17x8 td wheels, so I started looking at 17" avon tech r's. The one avon that would work on the sho, 225/45/17, drops down to a 1100 lb load rating, which is under but close. I started looking for other r comps but found there werent many in the 17" size. Whats a popular size 17" r comp that would fit the sho? Where can you buy them?

I am looking at 245-40/17 Hankook Z214's on 17x8's with a 38mm offset. Will it fit under my Gen1? Good question. . . we'll find out soon. If it works, I'll post pics and details.

Right now I run 225-50/16 Hoosiers on 16x7's. It's a nice set up, but I feel the need to raise the traction threshold a bit more.

I have 35mm offset with 235/45-17's. I had to cut and roll the rear fenders and still get rubbing with the suspension fully compressed.

you'd get a lot more clearance if you slot your rear towers and degree the camber a bit more negative up top. Good for about 1/2 degree, which equates to ~1/4" more fender clearance. my 40mm offset 17x7's rubbed pretty bad w/o doing this and cutting the lip off. I love their offset w/ the lower gen 1 skirts, though!

Those are Hankook F200 slicks (C70 compound) on 17x8 rims, ET 38. These slicks are actually 0.1" wider than the 245/40-17 Dot R "wanna-be slick" tire, and 0.3" less in diameter. (Yes, slicks are legal in my SCCA class, C Prepared.) No clearance issues with regard to the GC coilover struts that have the stock spring perches removed. Rear fenders had to be trimmed significantly to clear the tire.

Rim + tire weighs ~39.5 lbs. :naughty:

They are 17x8 O.Z. Crono HT. I'll take better pics later when I get the correct centering rings. Didn't want to drive the car out of the garage as they came with the wrong size centering rings. I was just test mounting them to see if they cleared the struts and fenders.

Did you order from tirerack? What car did you use, I tried gen 1,2,4 and an 03 Volvo S80, but only got the 16 and 18 sizes. I really like these wheels and they are nice and light.

Yeah try the 850 Turbo I think that's what I did. FYI, I think I ordered the last set.

If/when they get them back in stock, you have to call and tell them you need lug nuts and centering rings for a Ford Taurus. I just assumed all the center rings were the same for any given bolt pattern, but they're not. Ask me how I know better now.

Good news. Looks like Tire Rack will have them back in stock within 6-8 weeks. :thumb:

Then there's the new kid on the block, the Nitto NT01.

There was a guy in an Audi Quattro running these last weekend. He totally smoked me. . . and it was raining, too.

Needless to say, I'm taking a serious look at these . . . they are fairly reasonably priced, too. .. ~$170 for a 225-45/17.
