Quick question while I'm at work (on break): What is the cylinder order/placement on the V8 SHO? Which 4 against the firewall or which 4 in the front of the car?

I got a CEL this morning on the way to work and the idle is a bit wonky again. I'm hoping that Jered flipped the coils when he welded the cams and the probable bad one is in the front now. That would be the best scenario as I snagged 4 coils on the ebay deal the other day... :) I'll be heading to AutoZone to get the codes read on the way home from work.

Keep your fingers crossed that it isn't something ELSE that's majorly expensive.

Thanks!

The car had a misfire cylinder 4 stored when I bought it as well as a dirty MAF/injector code. The previous owner put a heavily oiled K&N in there. After cleaning the MAF and tossing the soggy filter I cleared the codes. Nothing came back until now. I'm hoping Jered moved the back coils to the front during the cam weld so I don't have to dismantle the surge tank.

Assuming the code IS a misfire again. I should know in 3 hours or so.

Well, crap. Still getting a P0304, misfire detected in cylinder 4. I hope those coils get here soon... If replacing the coil doesn't do it, then what? Have the injector checked? See if the wiring harness for the back side is fried? (although I'd hope Jered would've said something while he was in there if that was the case)

I'd bet it's that coil, sucks you had one go bad right after you bought it. I went a year and a half before I had one go bad.

Although I now know what my clunk was in the front and rear suspension

I got my coils yesterday. All nice and brand new like the auction said. It was the fasted I have ever had anything shipped from an e-bay transaction. Purchased on Saturday, received on Monday. It looks like this guy sold about 42 coils.

I got my coils yesterday and will attempt to replace the 4 on the rear bank Saturday. Any tips? Not especially looking forward to yanking the surge tank and intake.

And for the when it rains it pours category, my ABS light and brake light have been on steady for a day now. Good chance the ABS controller has gone **** up?

Wow I must have missed that auction. Wouldn't still have the link by chance.

Pop your cherry with that intake. If you plan on owning it for a while you should get used to removing it. The second time is a lot easier. Tips: Keep all the bolts organized and know where they go(1 or 2 long intake runner bolts). The tank support bolts on the back are the worst to tread back in so be patient with those. When reinstalling the runners, install the lowers first and keep the bolts and couplers loose. The reason for this is that there are locating tabs on the surge tank and the upper runners have to sit on them correctly(a gentle tap with a rubber mallet seats them nicely Keep everything well organized and go at it.:thumb:

The back surge tank bolts are required by myself to be positioned on the radiator support leaning over the entire engine. They are a pain, but it is worth it to be able to replace the coils/remove the intake by yourself.

It is not worth it to have a shop do it whatsoever. Do it once, you'll know what's goin on with the intake.

On my engine the back support on the drivers side never made it back on. :)

On the other support with the braided ground strap I moved the stud to the top so it is much easier.

You do not have to remove the runners attached to the LIM or remove the runners from the surge tank. Loosen the rubber connector and take the surge tank and runners off in one piece. Have an extendable magnet handy to get those dropped bolts and wrenches But if the runners and surge are carboned up bad the LIM needs to come off and cleaned too. You can reuse all the gaskets, the steel ones require a fresh coat of paint before they go back on with the paint still wet.

Well the runners and LIM were cleaned when I had the cams welded (I watched him do it) so that shouldn't be a problem.

But...I won't be getting to it until next week now. I found out why my brake idiot light was on....on the way home from work today trying to come to a stop the pedal goes whoooooosh all the way to the floor. Can you say no fluid? Luckily I was about 6 blocks from the BrakeMasters where I had the power steering and brake fluid flushed awhile back. We put it up on a lift and the metal brake lines that run down the driver's side of the car now have a leak. VERY NASTY rusted up brake lines. The brake lines aren't in stock locally but Ford said I could pick 'em up Tuesday or have BrakeMasters pick them up.

Yeah, I know, dealership/stealership, etc. :p

So much for buying the rotors and pads I wanted this paycheck... /sigh Tirerack will have to do without my $$ for a little while longer.

Yeah, well, just having had the system flushed 2 weeks ago I assumed the fluid level was fine.

But we all know what happens when you assume.. :)

You will see that this is becoming a common problem on the Gen 3s. Mine are rusted but I smothered them with an aresol petrleum jelly a couple of years ago and don't drive it in the winter any more.

I have just contacted Custom Tubes and they will make a complete set out of stainless steel for around $200. But some one needs to send in a complete set fittings and all.

Seems like you have run into a string of issues with your low mile car. That's too bad. We do live in a rust state though.
