I was talking to Eric and Boat about the 3.99 gearing! What I wanted to know is where does the 3.99 gearing go? I mean does it go in the overdrive or in the 3rd gear pack? Eric and I think it goes in the 3rd gear and Boat thinks it goes in the overdrive!

Thanks for the input

It's the drive and driven sprocket and chain.

These are the original parts needed but may be obsolete.

AXODE/AX4S Transaxle Sprocket Application
34 Teeth F1DZ-7G129-A

AXODE/AX4S Drive Driven Transaxle Sprocket
39 Teeth F1DZ-7G132-B

Sprocket Chain Ratio 3.98:1 95-96 3.0L Windstar
1 ID Link E6DZ-7G249-A

The +'98 Duratec Taurus has the 3.98 gears too.

Correct, its just a slight change in the ratio between the drive sprocket and the driven sprocket - none of the clutch assemblies are impacted at all.

Of course, if you do this, you need to reprogram the pcm to recognize the new ratio, otherwise it will not be happy and will refuse to lock the tcc, which tends to lead to all kinds of other problems.....

the ONLY issue it will cause it the torque converter (tcc) not to lock. supposedly a proper tune will fix it though. I did not have luck with my getting it to work on my car but I think my tranny was having other issues at the time.

the difference is noticeable and IMO is definitely worth the change. They should have come with this gearset from the factory.

I would think it would be causing 634ish errors as well. You know, the "incorrect gear ratio obtained" codes. Although I would think a TwEECer would fix this easily and quickly. Just redo the gear ratios with the new final drive factored in.
