Hey guys. A close friend of mine has a '94 ATX with factory JBL and a new JVC head unit. He got a Kenwood amp and 2 10" kenwood subs in an enclosure and we recently tried hooking them up. I've done a few stereos in my day and I can tell you there is good fused 12v in, good ground, good remote. The RCA comes from the specified line out behind the head unit and the audio mode has been selected for that line out. My issue is that basically nothing happens... The amp powers up but there is no thump. I tested it with a known good amp and sub and still nothing. Seems to me that there is no signal from the RCA...?

I should mention that the head unit uses an adapter harness and retains all the factory equipment. My question; does the factory amp and/or sub need to be bypassed to get a signal to the RCAs? Is there a mode selection I can use to send a signal? What have you guys run into along these lines?

Any help is much appreciated.

Turns out his speakers are bunky... tested with another set and they work. I guess I had a poor connection somewhere when I tried the other speakers. Guess you get what ya pay for.

On a side note, I did find the intermittent open/poor connection in the cheap adapter harness that a stereo shop sold and installed. :)

Thanks guys!
