My SHO has an annoying rattle in the dash. I do believe the previous owner mentioned some kind of piston motor mount missing. Is there a resource to know what all engine mounts and/or dampeners are in the engine bay area? I think I may need to replace strut mounts as well. The creaking and squeaking in the car I'd like to fix or reduce as it is a bit much.

The "shock" that was on the one motor mount will not prevent or cure a rattle in your dash. The most likely cause of the rattle is something that has worked loose over the years. Unfortunately, that typically means a lot of reaching up under the dash wiggling things to find it.

The piston mount you are referring to is the Torque Damper. Originally there was one in the front connected to the front mount and then one each on either side of the engine bay. One mounts to the engine and strut tower on the passenger side and the other mounted to the transmission and strut tower on the driver side. They are all three obsolete. My suggestion would be to get a solid reinforced mount from SHOSource and don't worry about the Torque Dampers.

Thanks. Managed to find the mounts on Shosource. As for the rattle looks like I'll have to dig deeper to find the source.

Is the rattle dependent on speed? If so, what range? Could be out of balance tires (around 75 MPH) or worn CV joint (around 55 mph).

The dash rattles at lower speeds, like city driving. At highway speeds it tends to go away. The rear end of the car has a squeak which can be heard any speed, particularly over bumps, potholes.

Was the dash ever removed or partially removed? you can end up with a good rattle when all the fasteners are not put back and tight as they need to be. Also squeaks- old or deformed rubber or lubricated parts with leaking or degraded lubricant. Also major and minor accidents (even wear and tear over time) can tweak geometry enough to make mating surfaces squeak or rub a tiny bit.

The rear squeak is probably the inboard bushings in the lower control arms. My '90 has the same [problem. I tried lubing them with no success.

So I have the same issue w/ my '95. Prior owner did mention heater core was replaced by his mechanic shortly before I bought the car. I presume that means the dash was partially out? When I get the rattle you can actually see the very center of the dash by the defroster vents move very slightly up and down. My rattle is both city driving and at about 75 mph. Tire store says my tires are balanced fine... the speed dependent rattle tells me otherwise.
For the dash - I cannot get my hands up anywhere near the top cnter of the dash to check for loose or missing fasteners. How much do I nee to take off to get there? I'm thinking removng the glovebox might be my best avenue of attack?

The shop manual calls for removing the dash entirely to replace the heater core, including separating the wiring from between the dash and engine compartment. That's actually not necessary. This is how far the dash has to be pulled out:

These instructions will show you the fasteners that would have had to be loosened to get to that point. For a '90, same as a '95:

Good Info above with Nick! Yes it has to be partially at least removed to access it. Is everything 100% back to where it belongs? No way to tell. i have also seen middle dash shaking from bad tire balance/ possible alignment issues. Those are the 2 most common causes with the shakey or squealy/creaky in the dash as far as I remember.

I have seen those fasteners at the windshield area of the dash work loose over the years also. Good chance one or more of those is missing or loose given the dash has been out in the past.
