One of the members here postulated that super finishing the gears would destroy the torque bias ratio of the Quaife. The TBR is based on gear layout, and size ratio. Here is the text of an Email that I sent to Quaife on the matter:

It will not affect the TBR and I suspect will have little effect on temperature.

I had superfinished the surface of all of the gears internal to the quaife differential for a Ford Taurus SHO application. This involved using the following 4 grits of diamond polishing paste: 32, 16, and 8, followed by 2 micron. I used q-tips with the paste to smooth the surface roughness of the face, flank, and bottom land of all the gears. For the top lands of all the gears’ teeth, and the all of the flat portions I used 1200 grit wet sandpaper, and mineral oil on a sheet of glass. I did this just enough to knock off all tooling marks, and give the gears a fair polish.

I am curious if this superfinishing of the internal gears would reduce the amount of torque that the differential could bias? I have no way of testing to know for certain. My initial goal with this work was to keep the transmission temperatures down while the vehicle was being tracked.

Thank you for your time.

(Name Redacted)

I am considering having the differential sent back to Quaife to have it certified by them, but if I do go this route, there is no way I am offering any discount on it. If anyone is interested in the differential, let me know what you would prefer.

I emailed quaife regarding looking it over:

I am trying to sell my Quaife differential from a Taurus SHO project.
I had previously contacted a gentlemen by the name of Len Unwin at your offices. Here is the information from that email:

How much will it cost me to have the differential recertified by you, if i ship it to your location?
Also is it possible for it to be able to carry a lifetime warranty again? The original owner that I purchased it from had not filled out the card. I think I will be able to sell it, if it carries a lifetime warranty from Quaife.
Anything you can do on the matter is much appreciated.

And Len replied again:

The work you carried out will have no affect on the performance of the unit, it will be the same as standard. We cannot transfer the warranty but I believe you are in the States, which does not have the warranty. The approach when selling is to say that the reason we can offer a lifetime warranty is that they never go wrong and if there is a genuine fault with any of our products we always look at each issue on an individual basis in or out of warranty.

Quaife are pleased to advise that we will be exhibiting at the Professional Motorsport World Expo Dates: 3, 4 & 5 November 2009 & at the Autosport Engineering show Dates: 14, 15 January 2010 stand E133..

That is about the best I can do. I will keep the price at 1200 firm, since it has no warranty.

Here I will be posting the rest of the pictures of the Quaife's internal gears:

Wierd, they say there isn't a warranty, but there is. Maybe what they mean is that the reseller that imported it warranties it but Quaife does not. Either way it appears that if you are willing to send it back to Quaife they will look at it.

You might want to try contacting Josh at SHONUT to see what he has to say about warranties with respect to Quaifes.

My 12 year old Quaife is in its third tranny. I only know of one failure and Quaife repaired the diff for free.
