Pure Performance brand brake rotors! Group buy?

Does anyone know if this company makes good quality rotors?

I'm doing the 96 brake upgrade and found the rotors on the pure performance web site
for about $160 shipped. That includes x-drilling or gas slotted. Sounds like a good deal
for x-drilled. If they are good and anyone else is interested, maybe we could check on a
group buy discount. Let me know any interest or opinions. Thanks!

Cross drilling and gas slotting will not be of any performance benefit on the street. Those features are to allow for off-gassing in very high temperature situations such as track racing. But they sure look cool. Big expense for looks only. You make the call.

I didn't see the brakes you were talking about for $160 shipped. Is that for all four rotors, or just 1 rotor?? I'm REALLY needing to get some rotors soon to replace mine cause they're warped...but just don't have the money on me right now. I will later though. And I had planned on crossdrilled or gas-slotted, and bigger as well...so...may as well get these if they're a good price. If not, I won't bother I guess. Would cost at least $120 for all of them if I were to go to AutoZone.

As Scott said, the rotors being x-drilled or slotted will not give you any benefits on the street; with one exception. I have noticed much better braking in the wet since I have installed slotted rotors on my 89. This holds true for slotted rotors only though as they can "shed" the water accumulated off the rotors much better than standard rotors. X-drilled have a bad tendency to crack when exposed to wet weather conditions due to the fast temp. changes from braking then going through a water puddle. Just a few things to think about.

Just looking at my crummy calipers and wondering how you guys fix them up? I'm guessing bead blasing and powder coat? Is there regular paint that will stand up?

Scott and Alan - Thanks for the info. The pureperformance site claims that the crossdrilled rotors provide better braking and better cooling, but don't recommend slotted except for race applications. Considering Alan's comments, and considering I'm in Seattle, maybe the slotted would provide better integrity and wet weather performance. I've always wondered about the integrity of crossdrilled rotors, even tho the site also says they are sound. Although, I'd be afraid that the '94 SHO would still be able to warp the 11.6" rotors without the enhanced cooling of the x-drill.

Brian - If you go to the site and click on Domestic, then Ford, you will see the 96 SHO front rotors listed for 73.99 each+6.00 handling. x-drilling or slotting is free, and shipping is free. Cadmium plating is $15.00 x-tra per rotor. I don't plan to change the rears.

Hey - I think the bright cad plate rotors would really catch the eye with the red calipers - thumbs_u Never heard of black cadmium plating (??). I don't know if black rotors would be that noticeable. If you do it, post a pic so we can all check it out.

I thought the gold ones might look a bit too bling bling and the silver wouldn't be very noticable compared to well kept non-plated rotors but the red caliper (I used sand paper, primer, then high-temp engine paint) and black rotor combo should make a nice contrast.

I agree the gold rotors just wouldn't look right unless you had gold trim on the car or something. It's kind of the same way I feel about putting colored body-fill SHO lettering on my damn green 94. I just don't think any colors would look that good with green, unless maybe silver, but even then I'm not sure I'd like it any better than the stock look.

I have personally seen a set of KVR pads and cadmium plated cross drilled rotors on a 1993 SHO. The braking performance was significantly less than I was accustomed to with Performance Friction Carbon Metallic pads and any rotors, but the best have been the $18 "specials" from AutoZone - no warpage, no heat stress cracks, no problem. The KVR pads were smaller in area than the back plate and the PF pads. A mismatch that sacrificed swept braking area. The back plates also didn't fit the calipers correctly and were filed and damaged by the shop that installed them. The cadmium plated rotors looked like dirty old rotors that just didn't have rust on them. But they did have stress cracks at many of the cross drill holes. You do realize that the plated friction surface will be quickly worn down to the iron rotor and that cadmium does not have marketable friction characteristics in the meantime? I installed a spare set of PFCM pads on his car and he was very pleased with the upgrade in braking performance. For a whopping $32 with a lifetime replacement warranty. You can't beat that.

Thanks Scott! I'm convinced! I'm going to forget the x-drilled rotors and go with the PFCM
pads. With the 96 upgrade I'm sure I very happy with the increase in braking performance.
