ok, i was driveing home from work a day ago, and saw a riceer up ahead so , as i usually do, i start speeding up to catch up with him. sudenly, i hear a sound like sand being kicked up under the car and the the car bucks hard, then dies. so i roll to a stop, get out and check under the hood. come to find out, my idler/tentioner pulley must have locked up, because it unscrewed it'self and not only eat my alternator belt, but broke an electrical connector feeding power to the eec. i fixed the connector already, but can't find this damn pulley anywhere. does anyone know where i can get one for cheep? i need to get tires bad, so i don't have much money to throw at this. any sudjestions would be nice, i just got her back on the road and now she's grounded again.

I had a similar problem not long ago. My idler pulley came loose and ate a belt and broke off one of the bolts holding the bracket near the waterpump. Extraction of the stud was a real PITA. Don't automatically assume the pulley is shot. Take the pulley and housing out and check it out. If it spins freely then you may just need new bolts torqued in and a new belt. The bracket/housing is sold seperate from the pulley. I checked around and new pulleys were expensive and used ones were hard to find. Check it out first. If any of the bolts from the bracket to the engine are shot I think I have all 3 sizes in my computer somewhere at home (working 3rd shift now).
