After a very bad oil change experience @ sears for my last oil change, I finally decided to change my own oil. It took me quite awhile to get the drain plug out. It was for the most part totally unscrewed but it refused to come out. I finally resorted to pulling it out, which caused the wire going into the end of the drain plug to seperate (the wire to begin w/ was in pretty bad shape). Now my Check Oil light doesn't go off. Is there anything I can do? I'm thinking a new drain plug w/ the wire attached and connect the new wire.

Umm, there is no wire connected to the drain plug. Sounds like you took out the oil level sensor instead.

OMG---I'm a *******. Anything I can do to fix this? I'm guessing that's the reason less oil than I thought would drain did. I should probably plan on doing a proper oil change next weekend, too, right (and w/ Mobil 1, it's not cheap)?

You do want me to whack you over the head with a crow bar until you're unconscious, right?

Did you break the lug off the sensor or just break the wire? If it's just the wire it should be able to be spliced pretty easily.

If you broke the sender, I can't find a listing on AutoZone, PA, FPN, or RockAuto. I'll see if I can dig one up at Kirk's on Monday. Your price: $500.00 + labor! eek!

I guess when you asked for oil change tips I should have included WHERE THE G.D. DRAIN PLUG IS!!! :D (Actually, I'm pretty sure I pointed it out to you when I showed you that it was leaking and recommended a new drain plug gasket...)
