ok, so i was driving and my 93 mtx started to ****. when i pulled over it stalled, so i tryed to start and it started, then within 5 sec. the tac whent to 0 but the motor was still running, then it would stall 2 sec after that. i did this many times and when it would stall i would give it gas and it would backfire and barley run. so i waited 30 minutes came back out and it started right up, and ran fine, but the abs light was on and stayed on. so i took it to autozone and had them pull the codes and this is what i got.(214,219,542,). i took it to my mechanic and he thinks that it may be something with the fuel pump relay, but doesnt wanna work on it because it is a big hassle. Please help!!!! I am currently disonnecting the battery and trying to clear the codes and start it up and see what happens please help!.

You have all the indications of a CID (cylinder Id aka CAM POS SENSOR) failure. I don't have my book handy but if I recall correctly 214 is the PIP failure code for the CID.

542 is a fuel pump circuit failure which is caused by the loss of signal from the ignition system.

Not the CPS (Crank Position Sensor) the CID (Cam Id sensor). It's located on the rear exhaust cam at the front of the engine.

ABS could be a seperate issue. You can have your mechanic pull the ABS codes.

the lady at autozone printed off instructions to find problem, what do i have to do to tap on this sensor to see if it is the problem. also i dont know how my abs light would come on if it is a cam sensor. Last night i cleared the codes and my abs light is still on, im gonna do it again and take it to autozone and have them see if they can pull any codes

ABS codes are checked through a diferent test connector. The only way that these two items could be related is if for some strange reason somthing shorted etc. and the electrical surge caused problems with the ABS module and the PCM. You should just replace the CAM sensor I bet you'll fix that problem. As for the ABS, both times that my light has came on it was the ABS relay next to the coil pack. I just removed it and cleaned the ralay and harness plug because they were corroded. If you pull the ABS codes you should have your awnser.

Id doubt your ABS problem is related to the stalling, but it came on AS it was stalling?
Tapping on the sensor would tell you if it is no good? There is a list of codes somewhere around here which would tell you what that is, isnt there?

ok, so i called up the sho shop in madison and he told me how to get to the cam sensor and i started the car and tapped on the sensor and it didnt stall or sputter. so it isnt the cam sensor. is there a way to test the crank sensor, i dont know why it would be gone it was replaced 20,000 miles ago. and the abs light, the sho shop told me that you can test it when you turn on your key it should blink and if it goes off then you start it and the light comes back on there is a problem with the abs. if the light blinks and it satys on evan after starting there is most likely a prob with the fuse. but i canot find the fuse. is it the fuse under the dash or under the hood.

many problems!

NO offense man, but why call around to the sho shop, etc.. when you have MANY experts in the field here. I wouldnt say its a sure shot the cam sensor is good just because the car didnt crap out when you "tapped" on it... WHAT did the codes say? The cam sensor is pretty easy to replace, and if it hasnt been done, may as well replace it anyways, I want to say its approx $20?

also when i went to az, when she pulled the codes it didnt give me a exact problem it just gave me steps to find the problem and the first step for seeing if the cam sensor is gone is to locate the sensor and start car and tap on it and if the car stalles or sputters this is most likely my problem. and when i did this the car didnt stall, i dont have the tools or the knowledge to do the rest of the steps. im not very familiar with electrical systems. so help is very much appreciated

DTC 214 is the code for CID circuit failure. 219 Spark timing defaulted to 10deg-Spout circuit open. The three things that jump right out as possibilites is CID failure, PCM failure or broken wire. Out of these the CID replacment is the easiest and most logical as indicated by DTC 214. It it is possible for 219 to becaused by broken wire, missing spout jumper or faulty PCM and may be related to the CID failure.

Sure there may be other problems that can cause your issue but the help that everyone is trying to give you is the most common based on 100's of SHO owners on this forum inputting what resolved their simular/identical problems.

Go to SHO Phoenix Project. They have a step by step guide on how to test your SHO without a scan tool. It is very easy to do and may help you.

alright guys, i pulled the codes and the first code was (111 which is system checks ok) but them i get the code (219 which is SPOUT circuit failure, timing defaulted to a 10 degrees- follow code 213 diagnosis). and (213 is SPOUT or SAW circuit open or shorted- ignition systems). also the abs light came back on when i was performing the test. what shall i do now i have no clue what code 219 is or how i can correct it.
