So I lost my PTU yesterday, a friend (who is a Mopar master mechanic) has offered to put the new one in for me, I am curious how many hours it takes so I can pay him a fair price?

Master mechanic should be able to do it in <6 hours. Just make sure you have all the necessary exhaust gaskets, spindle nuts etc....
it’s really not that difficult of a job just a lot of stuff needs to come off first.

Using a lift or doing at home? I agree about 5-7hrs. You have to drop the subframe and all that stuff under there. This and the waterpump issue are scaring me away from the new cars.

Is there a list somewhere of everything I will need? I would like to have everything ready for him if I can

Subframe does not need to be dropped.
The lower dog bone can be removed and the engine can be ratchet strapped enough forward from underneath for plenty of clearance.
Same with the rear turbo.
You can see in the second pic how much the engine rotated. The mount bolt compared to the bracket hole.

It’s kind of tricky reorienting the ptu ****** with the drive shaft because you’re not supposed to turn the driveshaft ****** independently from the shaft.
If on a lift this shouldn’t be an issue.

I was going to do a “how to” but never got around to it.
I did keep all my packaging and receipts for everything I bought.
I ended up having to replace my downpipe’s because the weld at the flex coupler broke during removal.

So if those are in decent shape the only thing you should need are the exhaust gaskets nut for the passenger side driveshaft wheel bearing.
New PTU comes with new seals installed so you should be good there.
Where is the special slip for tool you’re supposed to use when reinstalling the driveshaft into the new PTU so you do not damage the seal.

Let me see if I can compile a list and I’ll post here later on.

By the way the best price I found for the PTU was on eBay.
A lot of times they have a promotion for 15% off or extra eBay bucks, that’s how I bought all my gaskets and bolts.

I also just noticed from other posts that you have a 2016, mine is a 2010 so I would confirm all parts are interchangeable before ordering.

Is the ptu from a non PP different from the PP model?

 3rd PTU on a 2015? Ya you could upgrade, as long as you are prepared to plumb in the cooling lines, and make configuration changes to the PCM and 4x4 module so they recognize the new functions of the PTU.

Ha! Is that all? Thanks for the reply.

Yeah, third one. First one was replaced with Ford warranty by a local dealer. Can't say I liked my service rep very much, but it was done. Then, I started having problems again, only 5-6 months later. This time, I was out of factory warranty but had an extended warranty from a third party. They covered the repair and it was done by a friend who has a mechanic shop here near me. His dad was telling me he saw signs that lead him to believe it wasn't a new PTU that Ford put in. Can't remember what those signs were at this moment, but I figured maybe it was a rebuild. Anyway, third PTU is going strong. *knocks on wood*

The Ford service rep told me that the newer PTUs don't have the same issues of earlier units . I have an 18 and was looking for some comfort lol . Is that true or BS? Or maybe he meant because the PP is cooled?

The newest revision (-G) PTU (PP or NON PP)has a revised thrust washer. I have an article saved somewhere quoting that.
I’ll post it if I can find it.

Great thanks. Hopefully the later models are rid of the failures . He also said they haven't seen any failures for the last couple of years and recommended to not bother changing the oil for that reason .
