I just drove my car back from the dealership after having the PTU serviced. My garage now smells like a freshly paved road. Does spilled, burned PTO oil smell like tar?

Thanks
Drew

Also after sitting in my garage all day there is about an ounce or so puddle of clear, I think, gear oil. I’m guessing that can’t be from over pour but possibly a leak from the drain plug? Is there a seal on the drain plug that they should have replaced when changing the fluid?

PTU GearOil, usually 75w140.
Smells like tar\kerosene when it drips down onto exhaust & burns\smokes off.
There's a Vent on the top side of the PTU; may be belching if mechanic overfilled PTU.
Or could have just carelessly spilled GearOil on exhaust pipe while draining or filling.

I'd cleanup drips on your garage floor, run it thru a carwash with a bottom spray,
then a 15min drive, then park in your garage & check next morning for fresh drips\smell.

Took your advice and everything seems to be fine. I'm guessing it was just overfill/spillage. Thanks again.
Good habit to occasonally (once a month or so) check for fresh drips
when you've got the luxury of an otherwise clean garage floor;
PTU Oil, Engine Oil, Transmission ATF, Coolant, Brake Fluid, Steering Fluid, Shock Fluid, Gasoline..
& learn to tell the difference in look\feel\smell of the various fluids.
