well after 3 years i got my car out of storage and i have an idea of what needs to be done before i try to start her but im just looking for some validation.

the car has been in stored indoors for the past 3 years it was put away with as little gas as possible ( i ran the car till it ran out of gas any idea of what that leaves in the tank)

any how im going to change the oil/filter and fuel filter and put in some gas with injector cleaner. i was wondering if i should put some marvel mystery oil in each cylinder and let it soak in prior to starting? when i do get to the point of starting i plan on disconnecting the coil and cranking it over a few times to **** the cylinders and then give her a go.

i will be removing the tranny to put a clutch in (the reason shes been in storage) so i just want to make sure the car runs so when i put it back together if it doesnt run i know it was something i did while assembly.

how does this sound to everyone? am i missing anything? thanks

andy

p.s its been some time since ive been back on the board but didnt we used to have a sticky on this?

Sound's good.

Fresh gas, and crank the engine over a few times without the DIS connected.
Keep the gas floored when doing this so no fuel goes into the engine.

i thought when putting a vehicle into storage you should have a full tank with fuel stabilizer. If the gas level is low, then moisture will get in there and rot stuff out.

When it comes to storage......it's as bas as what the best oil/filter combo is. Everyone has their own little piece of advice lol

Gas

Gasoline last about a year, stabilizer should extend that a bit. The fuel will start to look green when it is going bad. With no gas you risk condensation in the tank and rust. I have a written 10 page procedure from caterpillar on how to store a diesel engine and you would not believe what they want you to do.
Diesel will last longer but it actually grows a fungus over time and there are additives to prevent that.
