Hello all,

I have the dreaded P0016 error on my SHO. Obviously I know this normally means timing chain trouble, but I wouldn't mind just replacing the $20 sensor throwing the code before I commit to a multi thousand dollar job on my car that'll put it out of commission for a while. The problem is I cannot for the life of me figure out how to reach the sensor, which is cam position sensor A on bank 1 (the sensor closer to the intake manifold on the bank closer to the firewall). It is located under what I presume to be coolant lines which I don't want to undo since air will get in my coolant. Has anyone ever removed this sensor, and if so, how did you do it?

I got mine out with a 1/4 inch compact socket and a 3 inch extension to get under the coolant fittings. I did the same repair when I got my SHO last March and the code went away for like a month and then came back. Just wanted to share my experience since you and I shared the same symptoms of the coming and going of the CEL. You might get lucky but only time will tell.

Yeah turns out I’m throwing codes now for P0402 and P0403 as well (cat sensors) so I’m def gonna have this done at a trusted family friend mechanic by the end of the month, sensor timing chain water pump etc. by the way, any updates on your car after doing the job yourself?

My son has a 2013 Taurus SEL that had the same codes P0402 and P0403. Replaced both 02 sensors for Bank1 and codes were still there. Ended up doing both manifolds/cats and car has been great ever since. Something to think about before throwing mad coin at it.

Car runs and drives no new codes but I’m not driving it until my alignment appointment on Saturday. Yesterday I tightened the throttle body intake pipe clamp since it was loose and was definitely leaking boost. Other than that no warnings or lights, car runs way smoother than it ever has. The main difference is before at idle it would almost sound like a “thunk” on wood over and over that’s the best way I can describe it. Now it’s just a smooth constant idle no chugging or “thunk” sounds from the chain stretch making the engine idle differently and when it was cold, oh man. Here’s links to how my car sounded on cold winter start. First one is driving cold second is at warm idle so you can compare.

Cold start and driving

Warm idle “thunking”

I have stainless works high flow cats on her right now, and I have the originals still in my garage. worst case scenario i throw the originals back on since I have inspection coming up in June, but I would hope the stainless works ones arent f'd up since I need them to run my tune although I doubt it knowing my luck these past few months

dude i friggin HATE that throttle body intake clamp. anyway my car doesnt sound anything like this thank God but I'm not gonna wait until it does, I'd rather just let my wallet take a hit and let that be the end of it since I have a "shit happens" fund saved up

Yeah it didn’t sound all that great hence why I just parked it and waited for all the parts.
