I own a '94 SHO with the ATX. My problem is that my rpm's are at zero and my check engine light is on, but the car still runs. I replaced my CPS(crank position sensor) thinking that was it, but no go.
However, when I unplug the battery for a bit and plug it back in the rpm gauge works for about a mile or so then it drops to zero and the check engine light comes on. The car doesn't ever stop running. It is difficult to start at times, but that's it. Once it starts it doesn't quit.
Do you think my water pump is leaking and soaking my crank position sensor? I don't see any leaks on the ground.
Thank you for any help you can give me. This one's got me stumped!

First of all run the codes. It will probably point to the CID or cam position sensor because those are symptoms of a failing CID. But the only way to be sure is to run the codes.

EDIT: DIY way to run the codes can be found on www.shotimes.com under the maintence section. Welcome to the forum.

I ran the codes and it gave me a 212(IDM circuit failure/spout circuit grounded) and 214(CID circuit failure). I replaced my ignition control module with a new one. Where is the CID sensor located at?
Thank you,
Chuck

The CID sensor is located on the passenger side of the engine mounted to the rear exhaust cam. Shouldn't take more than a 1/2 hour to change. The bolts are 5.5 mm. I unbolted the PS tank and pulled it back so the hoses were out of the way. Not sure what the 212 means. Maybe one of the gurus can anser that one. Have fun!
