I think my SHO is dying. I have little power, the car bogs in low gear, and only at 3000rpm does it get any power. This goes for all gears, under 3000rpm there is no power, and the car shakes and stutters. My gf noticed smoke coming from the exhaust, but only when I ran it up to 6500 rpm in the first 3 gears. Also, my oil level has dropped considerably since I noticed this loss of power 3 weeks ago. Anybody have any ideas what might be wrong? Could it be worn piston rings? Thanks

A whole number of things could cause this. Bad timing, bad CPS, MAF...

Run the codes. It should give us some kind of idea.
It doesn't throw a code. I have no idea what it may be, but I think the loss in oil has something to do with it.

My guess is either you are losing compression or your a/f mix isn't correct and you might be running really rich, and have to wait for the secondaries to open up for enough air to get into the system to balance out the fuel. Other than that I dunno..especially since you said it isn't sending a code to read...

As far as the loss of low end power, check to see if the secondaries open and close properly.

When you first start the engine, you should see the actuators close as vacuum builds in the system. They should open at 4K. You can goose a MTX and watch them move, an ATX won't let you do this at standstill.

My 89 was suffering from no low end power after I did a bunch of work on it. I found that I had disconnected the vacuum solenoid that controls the secondaries and had forgotten to reconnect it.

Ask your gf what color the smoke was from your exhaust. It's very important to identify what is burning. Just remember that black is fuel (some is normal under heavy acceleration), white is coolant (some is normal at cold startup, but that is condensation), and blue is oil (a puff at start up is usually the valve seals/guides and blue smoke at any other time, ie, accelleration or deceleration, is usually rings).

Check the operation of the secondaries and identify the color and timing of the reported smoke and let us know what you find.

half-way there, I think.
I had 2 different things cause a similar problem in my 89'. The spark plug/wires were drenched it oil. Another time it was a bad injector (stuck open) it dumped all kinds of fuel at low rpm and would run okay above 3 or 4k rpm. The injector then in turn fouled the plug.
