Was parking my car night before last and noticed that the engine would rev down a little at random below idle, the exact kind of rev down that I would get all the time learning how to drive this car (first stick).

Then yesterday I pulled into the lot by my place to drop off rent and when I pulled back out, the clutch was slipping like crazy (I normally never let the car go above 1500rpm when shifting unless it's a steep incline or someone has kindly pulled too close to me on a hill). I could not get the car to go below 2000-2300 rpm while clutching into first and I would get no "grip" as it were out of the clutch until almost all the way clutched out and even then it didn't grab the same way I'm used to having it grab around 1/3 of the way clutched out.

About 4 miles later it was acting pretty normal again

As far as I can ascertain it is either the clutch linkage or the throw-out bearing but I'm not sure

Is this an indication of something I'm not aware of or am I going to have to do some kind of work on the clutch?

Pull up on the clutch pedal with your foot then press it down. That takes up any slack in the cable. Sounds like the clutch quadrant in the pedal assembly.
