Possible blown head-gasket, but I doubt it.

Alright... I sold my 1993 MTX two days ago.

I drove it to the guy's house who is about 20-30 miles away from me. The check engine light came on a couple of times, but didn't stay on.

He said he believes a blown head-gasket. But I would think with a blown head-gasket, the car would overheat. This is the exact opposite problem he's describing.

I guess what he's getting is the car won't heat up, and there's steam on the windshield when he's using the defrost. He said it'll heat up for a bit, then quit. If he revs it, it'll start heating up some more.

What do you guys think?

I've owned the car for 4 years, and I know that it did take a while for the car to heat up.

I'm stumped...

Could have a t-stat that is stuck open too, but moisture in the ventilation system is usually the sign of a problematic heater core.

Start by finding out why the CEL is on. There is a link in my sig that shows how to do it.

Heater core...

It's foggy and there's a smell.

Funny that would happen though. I owned the car for 4 years, the most serious problem I had was the water-pump went out.

I found the link for a dash-removal.

So, it can be replaced without removing the engine, right?

Besides the fact that coolant runs through it. The heater core has nothing to do with the motor. All the work is in the cabin. He can bypass the heater core and drive it without the problem.

I'll be sure to mention that... although, he might have a problem with it only being 32 degrees today. :thumb:

But thanks guys, you are all most helpful.

I told him about this site, so hopefully he listens.

My new car requires a new forum... and don't worry, you guys still have the upper hand on my new car. 1999 Grand Prix GTP coupe.

HAHA! No, I know that a MTX SHO can pretty much whoop up on any GTP 2001 or older. I think it's when you get into the 2002+ the GTPs become a problem for the MTX SHO. This is all stock, of course.

Yeah, I've noticed some GTP owners are kind of.. :nut:

I'll have fun working on the GTP though. I really like that supercharger, and I think it handles really nice. I can't wait for that new pulley :dribble:
