Ported exhaust manifolds?

For those that have upgraded their turbos, have you looked into swapping exhaust manifolds for ported/extrude honed ‘13+ OEM options?

When I build the motor I plan on extrude honing the 13+ manifolds I have on the car as well as the exhaust side of the turbos however until you are ready to make like 600+ I don't see a point in thinking about it. Matt at GH estimates I am making 550awhp right now despite being tuned currently by AJPTurbo and things are flowing marvelously. However I think once the whole engine gets a bit of porting and cleaning it would be a wonderful combination

Even just swapping out the 10-12 for the 13+ without extruder honing the 13+ should see a substantial increase. Until now I never knew how pathetic the OEM 10-12 exhaust manifold is.

But I already have the ‘13+ manifolds in my ‘15. I was just planning ahead for my future plans. Didn’t know how much a restriction, if at all, the manifolds are when upgrading to larger turbos

I just contracted Max Power Automotive to hand port a brand new set of 2013+ Exhaust Manifolds. I will share the flow data.

Actually, no flow data ubkess I want to pay another 200. Sorry boys, I think I'll pass on that. We'll just have to realize ported is better than stock all day long. I'll share images, and pic comparisons of my stock 10-12 to the new ported 13+ prior to a finished install.

Update. The 13+ manifolds were a special order item and took some time to reach Tasca. They shipped today to MaxPower Automotive. I forwarded the tracking number and will be getting pics of the process. Stay tuned.

Wonder if dimpling the interior of the exhaust manifold would help the exhaust flow in any way.

So if I get manifolds from a 2013 port and polish them I can get more performance power?
Just swapping your 10-12 Exhaust Manifolds out to 13+ should result in more air flow to the turbos. The stock 10-12 Exhaust Manifolds are big time restrictive....something our older siblings 13+ don't have....

I had to dig but I found the FB post from SHO Ecoboost Owners. Someone did a flow test on the 10-12 compared to the 13+ cast manifolds. Thanks so much for sharing these! I can’t believe how restrictive those 10-12 manifolds are!!!!!

After some reading and following, having low miles on my stock turbos (18k), I decided to stick with the stockers and upgrade when I need to. Turbos, LPFP, and meth are the next mods to do but also my last mods to do. When the time comes, I’ll probably pick up a set of manifolds to port and install them with the GH turbos.

There is no question that they will absolutely flow better. I am no expert, but i believe the original design is for a reversion stop measure.

CR Performance has a design that they use on the F-150 Ecoboost, but they would need a group order and they would run close to the $1000 range

I wouldn't get wrapped up in the just the dyno numbers honestly. I would like to see if the TQ curve moved earlier in the RPM range. Was it making the same boost? Was the WGDC percentage down? Was it hotter or colder that day? There are so many factors that he does not address.

Remember, when I installed my GH IC....I made the same power, but with 2 psi less boost. That being said, same power but it was more efficient.

I 2nd SM105K's remark about don't get wrapped up in the numbers as ambient weather and lots of factors can affect the numbers.

As well as they did not show the area under the curve which is most important than just a peak value. Example - Would you give up 8 peak HP over 200 rpm to gain 2HP more over 75% of the curve between shift points?

I have the gaskets that go to exhaust system and to the turbos from the downpipes and I just ordered exhaust manifold gaskets and I guess I need turbos gaskets that hook to the manifold am I missing anything?
That video he buying extra parts from the dealer some of the Parts don't make sense but then again it wasn't F-150

If your oil and coolant lines to the turbos are in good shape, you might want to change at least their gaskets as well

So true! I'm after low WGDC% and thus make my turbos more efficient and build more boost with ease
