I get around 16-17 mpg all HWY miles on my 94 ATX sho that I bought back in August. 2weeks ago I just finished the front and upper 60k and the mileage hasnt improved much at all since before the work. The trans is not slipping and I have verified it is going into OD . Other than gutting the cats or putting new ones on and getting new o2 sensors is there anything else I can do to improve mileage?

Before I completed the work the ran ok but now it runs super and doesnt break down on me at all. I baby it 55-60 on the hwy back and forth to work.

The regular taurus tank was a 16 gallon or so tank. And yes, some SHOs got them. As I stated above, my daily driver SHO got one.

Any way to tell if you have a 18 or a 16 gal tank? Because when my low fuel light is on but the gauge it not totally on red, and I refill when its almost ontop of the red line and I fill up it usually only will fill 15 ish gallons..... 16 gal tank for me?

Sounds about right. Ive NEVER been able to feed my SHO more than 15 gallons. Even after traveling a long way (TOO LONG) with the low fuel lamp on. ;)

The mileage of my 95 ATX increased noticably when I replaced the stock O2's last summer. I was pleased with the results especially when you consider how straight forward it is to replace them. The rear one was kind of a pain to get at though.

My brother had a meticulously maintained '95ATX and he would bitch up a storm that he only got about 18MPG in mixed driving, while I got well over 20MPG in my MTX.

My 1990 gets 23-25 MPG, depending on how many times I kick in the secondaries. Mostly driven to work and back 13 miles each way. 11 freeway (but at 6:30 AM around here, the freeway can become city driving) and 2 city.

I, too must have the 16 gallon tank. I never let it get low enough for the light to come on, but I have never put much more than 14 gallons in it.

I got 17mpg cross country

towing a 5x8 uhaul trailer :)

my "terminal velocity" was 45mph -- going down a 5% grade and let it coast, that's as fast as I could go without getting on the gas.

Normally I'm around the 23 mark. Hoping to improve a little since it's about 5k overdue for a 60k, and I don't think it's ever had it's shims gapped with 190k on the engine.

I have never needed more than maybe 13 gallons to fill up with my low fuel light on. I don't know if I just have one of the small tanks or a REALLY conservative gas gauge.

My mileage varies a lot with temperature. It's always been that way.. as I think back to high school. You get a lot worse mileage in the cold. I think the car runs richer for longer when it's cold out? I'll get 320-350 in the winter and 350-400 in the summer. That's usually with a 16.5 gallon fill.

I drive an almost always hellishly slow 60 mile roundtrip commute to work.
I have a number of aftermarket engine/exhaust parts and can **** my tank if I don't drive like grandpa. Usually I do drive like grandpa.

If I start playing games and trying to break records I can get 450 miles in the summertime. I've also run out of gas and had my fuel pump get mad at me for abusing it. I want to say I've gotten 500 miles to a tank driving all highway miles with no traffic.

I'm with you. I can usually get about 18. I don't like it but I can't complain too much. It's not BAD.

Hmm, well I usually get about 230 miles or so before the light goes on and I fill up again, but at that point i only fit about 12-13 gallons in it....does the light trip THAT early?

For the most part, I average between 18-25 MPG with very varied highway/city and not a whole lot of flogging. I saw no change when I changed my O2 sensors (I was getting a code for a solid month too...I was disappointed).

If I'm EXTREMELY light on the throttle and it consists of 100% highway driving, I can squeak out 28MPG...but what's the fun in that if minivans pull away from you at a tollbooth? I'd rather keep my dignity at the expense of my fuel economy at that point.

my 95 ATX gets usually just over 300 per tank. when it gets really low it takes about 16 gallons so i'm guessing i have the smaller tank.

I get 550 to 600 km (not miles, lol) to a 55 litre fill up, but have gotten 750 km to a tank only on the highway, which is roughly 30-32 MPG, but with 50/50 driving, I get about 23-25 MPG, I have the 16 gallon tank.

sounds like all that dirty oil slinging around is dragging alot of dollars for gas out of peoples pockets, :oogle: I get 20 mpg never less :corn: and 28/32 on hwy runs the longer the better mpg, all stock 1991 MTX with some external mods, Im not insulting anyone nor am I trying to because I used to get lessMPG than was advertised when my car was new, I think now I get as good or better. and that is not always easy to maintain :lock:

The 89 does about 25 mpg with 50/50 in the touring mode. 30+ on highway trips. No difference with or without the 73mm MAF from C&L. But now the pinging is gone without it. The wifes 93 atx about the same in my hands and about 20 mpg/ 24 mpg in her hands or should I say feet. She can't get the concept of coasting between gas and brake. It's either or. We use lots of brakes on her car.

I get 420 miles out of a 16 gallon tank, when I do all freeway. And about 320 miles when I do in town and some freeway.

I have no idea how my o2 sensors are, but I am thinking I may need to replace them because I get get a CEL whenever I get on the gas real quick, and that's the only time. I haven't checked codes yet.
