2016 sho PP with 47k miles. new to me. only had it for a week or so. clean carfax not that it matters. anyway, probably should have left well enough alone for the time being, was driving fine. changed all the fluids. and like a boss decided "hey lets go ahead and get that livernois thing" so i got the one with plugs, the cai, tuner, map, tstat.

anyway fast forward to yesterday, was hoping they'd have sent my tune by the end of the day so i started installing parts. pulled the battery, and cleaned everything first no problem. everything went in easy. plenty of room to work. all hoses and coil packs and parts in and out easily gently. much easier than working upside down in a boat hull on a mercruiser v8. i figured it shouldn't make much difference if i have to run with slightly different parts for a day or two before installing the tune. was i wrong?

started it up... was shuddering and running rough at first but then idle stabilized. then if you give it any gas it stutters and runs rough. did i not install the coil packs correctly? i pushed them down as far as they could go, even torqued the plugs and the hold down bolts for the coil packs carefully to spec.

also on first startup after everything put back in "advancetrac" warning light appears... read it might be related to me just taking the battery out for a while... is that true?

never had a vehicle before where these kind of changes would cause all **** to break loose. what do i do now just wait for the tune and hope that solves the issues? put all the old stuff back in ? nowhere in the instructions does it say wait to install the parts till you can flash the new tune... or is that just common knowledge? putting a cai and some slightly hotter plugs in a motor shouldn't make it do this.. tune or no tune

what do you guys think? not blaming anyone here btw, just really wanting to drive my new expensive car.

You can install everything BUT the 3-bar MAP without having a tune. The engine will not run right with stock tune and 3-bar MAP. Reinstall the stop MAP, and see if it clears up all the issues.
ok thanks guys.... i kind of was hoping that was what it was but by 2am i had to stop wringing my hands and go to sleep because i worked all day today. will update when i get home and try it. that sounds a lot easier than pulling the new plugs out. ive read that normally its just the battery being removed that sets off the advancetrac is this correct?

edit: yes. no codes now, cleared the remaining few, runs like a top now. can't thank you guys enough. better than ever. i can only imagine with a tune.

Also....you couldn't pay me enough money to run a junk LMS tune.

glad it was a simple fix, good luck!

Tuning issues aside, the biggest drawback to the LMS tune is their proprietary tuning software, which locks you to their tune where as if you went with something tuning with HPTuners or SCT you could easily switch between tuners if unhappy.

Lee is being modest. Those other tuners are out performing LMS and doing it safer as well.

For the most part LMS will be "okay" but not optimal. Latest tune fixes issues for most, leaves a lot on the table however. One size fits all tune just doesnt work well for these cars.

yeah, i'm seeing what you mean looking around on theinternet.com. normally i do a lot of research on these kind of things but i had been thinking about getting a sho for a while and just kind of pulled the trigger on everything all at once because time has been so limited for me lately. drove to nebraska with my old shitbox escape to get this car after a night shift at the hospital. now if they would just send me the damn tune file already...

You will be surprised at your "Livernois" tune. It'll wake your Taurus up. I've qad it on mine since last year and never any issues. And never a problem talking to Livernois.
i'm happy so far. i don't really know what i'm doing in the world of gasoline tuning though. give me a cummins and i can play around quite a bit. so i'm still learning what to look for and what i even want out of it. a few things i want to figure out... the methanol thing i have in another post, and what pids are what in the mycalibrator so i can watch the parameters i want to... like ptu temp.

Thanks for this. I just installed the 3 bar and engine does indeed run like crap. Will replace it with the stock one and have garage install and tune.
