yes, the PIP is indeed the crankshaft position sensor (PIP = profile ignition pickup ). and i notice youre new to the forum, so i will fill you in, the CPS wont affect your performance, per se. it just causes the car to stop running when it goes bad :D frequent symptoms are the car stalls and starts right back up on its own, or just dies alltogether while driving. any particular reason why you ask? if you have a CPS/PIP error code, you should post your symptoms on the forum so we can try and narrow down what it is. i have gotten PIP errors which were related to other things that were wrong, so it doesnt necessarily mean your crank sensor is bad.

I ran my codes and got my pip wire. The car runs alright at an idle. But when I give it gas the car cuts out like it wants to die. Then it will slowly gain power and rev up but it takes along time to get through the rpm. Like 5-6 seconds to go to 7,000 rpms. My friends raps up in 2-3 seconds. The car wont accelerate very quickly. I'm sometimes scared to pull in front of traffic because it wont get anywhere quickly enough to be a safe vehicle. So i quit driving it. I change the cats out after my local mechanic told me my exhaust was clogged. It didn't help. I changed the fuel filter. There is no oil in the plug wells and the plugs appear to be in good shape. Somebody Help ME Please! headbang headbang headbang

sunny San Juan Bautista,
I had the same symptoms and it was my fuel pump. Fix the codes first and if you still have problems look into the fuel pump.

shojuan i agree. my bad fuel pump did the same thing. I replaced it and the car ran so much better. If your cps went you car would stall and the rpms would drop to 0. Sometimes you would have to let the car sit for awhile and cool before it would start up again. If you have the CPS already i would replace the waterpump while i had everything apart. Remember, if you are going to replace your CPS the best way to get the crank bolt off without stripping it is get a half inch drive with a 19mm socket, and rest it on the frame. THen bump the starter.

I dont know if my problem relates to the PIP wire or not, but I thought I would ask it anyway for any possible help...

I'll be driving along and when I push the clutch in to coast to a stop sign or a light the rpms drop from like 2-3 grand (or whatever it was at) to like 400 rpms...then the engine will try to recover....sometimes it does but then the rpms shoot up to 1500 then drop to 500 then up to 1500...and after some time eventually levels off to around 900 or so...other times when it first hits 400 rpms after I push the clutch in it will just stall...which I usually put it back in gear and let the clutch out and she fires right back up or I hit the starter if I am stopped and it fires right back up. The a key point is that the car will only do it when the temperature gauge is reading under the normal operating temperature. Once the engine warms up...she purrs like a kitten and there are never any problems. Another weird thing is....it happens randomly...and even in the same trip. Run fine for the first few stops, then struggle, then run fine....

The only thing I could think of was idling control sensor....

ANY help would be greatly appreciated.
TIA!
