half-way there, I think.
Well, it finally happened, the blower car did not pass emissions. The standards were lowered again this year. I did alll my usual tricks, pulled the spout, set the fan temp on to 210. Failed on Hydrocarbons, the limit is 1.2 GPM and mine came in at 1.7 GPM.

I showed my numbers to a mechanic friend of mine, he said my numbers were pretty good and that I was screwed.

I'm at a loss, other than putting the car back to a stock configuration to get it through and then reinstalling the blower after.

Anyone have any other suggestions??

TIA

Dude, I'm sorry to hear that. I don't really have any suggestions. Personally I would find someone that knows a mechanic and then grease his pawm.

I don't have to worry about stuff like that because for 50 bucks, I have the Ray Charles of inspections. HA HA

What cats are you running?

EDIT: Just looked at you "V-band" thread and saw your Aftermarket cats. I can almost guarantee that's the source of your hi HC. OE cats are superior to aftermarket cats as far as HC reduction. I would probably try to find a stock Y and adapt you exhaust to it.

Can you set a tune up for running on the lean side (without blowing it on NOX)?

Also, if it is just HC, can you install a 3rd (or fourth cat) in place of the resonator? It would be great if you set it up to bolt in using the Vband (make it the same length as the resonator section).

Just another thought.

move to a different state. Ok sorry I couldn't resist, I have had it with Jersey as far as this crap too man, I really feel for ya, wish I could help but I really don't know anything else to do other then what was already stated. Maybe try to heat the cats up more before they test it? aka beat the **** outta the car before you get to the station, but I doubt that will get it down far enough.

Add one quart of alcohol to 1/4 tank of gas.

Get the cats really hot...drive the **** out of it to the shop.

When you get there turn the engine off, pull the ecm lead that goes to the neg cable, then unplug the SPOUT connector on the PS firewall. Reconnect the ecm and reteach it to idle.

It will run REALLY sluggish cuz its about 30 degrees ******** but it will pass !!

Good luck.

Since this is an s/c car I don't know if it will help you but it definitely helps when stock.

I've had a decent amount of problems with the aftermarket cats holding up to any amount of oil blowby or excessively rich A/F ratios... It may just be time to replace them.

The only other option for HC is to switch plugs if you think you may be getting any inconsistency in the spark at idle (I put in NGK Iridium plugs, which you wouldn't want to run boosted, but improved cold running and idle significantly with the cams). Or bump the idle speed, or switch to stock cams if you are running staged ones now.

I'm thinking that's the next step. Cats are 6-7 years old and have 20k supercharged miles on them. Can anyone confirm the catalytic converters on the ShoShop pipe is a Magnaflow 94105?

I'm border line on NOX right now. I also thought of a 3rd cat, I'm going to replace the cats on the y-pipe first and see if it passes.

Didn't Fred used to have big problems with this and have to switch back to stock every year to pass?

I put a 3rd cat inline to pass emissions here when we had emissions. It was about where you are numberwise and it flew through.

I'm going to install new cats on the Y-pipe and try it again. If it fails, I'm going to track down stock fuel injectors, rails and MAF and put the car back to stock for the E-test.

Yeah, I called Fred this morning. He did indeed put the car back to stock.... by putting a stock motor in it. Quite honestly, I could have my car back to stock if I had the parts in about a hour.

I just take a couple hours to put everything back to stock. Not too much price to pay every 2 years (for California).
Plus, when I drive the car N/A, I get to hear the sweet sound of the secondaries opening up.

If you still fail, I would suggest rounding up a factory Y with good cats. If you do fail and you can't find one, I have one you can use. IIRC you are in Colorado so shipping wouldn't be horrible.

Thanks, I'm trying to avoid that if at all possible. Trying to adapt a stock y-pipe to my 3" exhaust without cutting up said Y-pipe would be a nightmare. If it doesn't pass, a friend of mine will let me borrow parts of his car so I can get it through.

Sorry, I'm at work and I just tried to silence the ring... Sometimes it sends a busy signal.
