Question on how difficult / off-color it would look to spray paint the entire dash black. I've been longing for a black interior in my white 95 for quite some time, but I don't want to go through the hassle of swapping out the dash. Has anyone ever considered doing this or actually done this already? pics would be very much appreciated. Also, how would the maintenance be to keep up with the dash from fading after painting? Can't think of any more questions at the moment, but all suggestions welcomed! :thumb:

I wouldn't paint my dash, its to soft and the paint might crank off, plus its the dash, if it doesn't crack it will probably get scratched. I dunno how well paint will hold on the dash with the sun beating on it all the time either.

LOL i like your sig pics

Yea I thought about the paint cracking / chipping / fading ect. But don't they have some paints that are made special for painting interior parts that might withstand some of this from occurring?

As long as everything is prepped properly, the paint should last forever. A lot of mini-truckers paint their entire interior (dash, console, door panels, etc.) and it looks awesome. I don't think we can pull that look of in a SHO though. Maybe just the dash and center console.

VHT is good, SEM works pretty well as well. Honestly for how much time you are going to spend taping and prepping the thing, you could have done the dash swap. However, if you dye/paint PREP THE SURFACES! I use SEM products regularly and they have a cleaner/prep-spray to be used after scuffing/stripping, then an adhesion promoter, then a color coat, then a clear top coat. I have used their system many times with good results!

I dyed my dash with VHT dye. I already had the dash pulled for a BDA fix, so there wasn't a whole lot of masking. I also used an adhesion promotor before the dye. IMO the dyed dash looks better than the factory black dash in my 93 and it has held up great. I took some pictures the other day, I'll try to get them up tomorrow.

Here's the dash dyed with VHT. The can that I used on the passenger airbag was junk so I need to redo it, but the rest came out great. You'd never know it wasn't original.
