I am doing mine right now... I am also grinding the casting marks off too.

I am just sanding and then I will wash it off with water and some chemical, which I cannot recall, that is made for preping. Then I will prime it, sand some more, prime it again.... then add a few thin coats of paint.

Thats what i was thinking of doing. What grit sandpaper are you using and are you using a pneumatic sander or anything of that sort?

My sanding consists of 300 grit paper and my hand. Because I am taking off the castings, I am getting the runners pretty smooth, but not too smooth.

Dave Ladely:
Since they are aluminum why paint color, why not get them satin or polished and then clear coat?
'Cause thats not what he wants... I would prefer paint in this engine bay as well. Now Tom's sandrail is beautiful, but it all matches too.

I like the polished aluminum look but i have a guy that will paint my intake and valve covers for $75 and my intake has some paint stripped off of it and some intake gunk on it from when i cleaned the intake.Plus I like the look of the intakes that are the same color has the car.

That is about the funniest thing I have heard in a while... You are actually paying someone $75 to paint your intake?! With some time, primer and paint, you could EASILY do it yorself.

I'd rather have some one paint the intake because its going to be off so i can do the valve adjusting next week and my father doesnt like is mustang outside to much in the snowy weather so i didnt wanna rush the painting. Plus it will be exact color match to the color of the car.
