This weekend I plan on sanding down the pits and smoothing out the rear window weatherstripping and repainting it back to a glossy black. My question is what kind of paint do I use for the job? Considering this is a vinyl/rubber?

I would go ahead and use a flexible primer/coater, and then go ahead and find a flexible color that would match what you are looking for. I work at an autobody shop and I would suggest a ppg product called flexible primer, and then follow up that with a standard trim coat of black.
