I'm using slow reducer. So less than an hour. Instructions call for up to 24 hours.

I've just finished clearing it. Pics as soon as my phone is charged.

So, Bill saw my lackluster bodywork and said "here's whammy...there's a low spot...we can get that ding...it's not ready". So we spent a long evening blocking, filling, guidecoating, blocking some more and now...it's ready for more epoxy and then surfacer - and then a final block. It's at least an extra week, but I think we fixed a lot of spots that I would have been staring at forever.

A million thanks, Bill. I'd call you a Xi Charrian but no one would get it...even with wookiepedia's help.

That orange peel will wet sand right out to perfection.
I like the color,it's actually making me want to paint mine the factory color instead of changing to oxford white.

-Your previous bodywork was in no way 'lackluster'! It just wasn't done yet! There are ALWAYS 'spots' that pop up & should be fixed when you think its a final block & paint time! , Prep, Prep, Prep & more Prep are what make a good 'Paint Job' satisfying!

So I sprayed a coat of epoxy on everything and followed it up with a coat of surfacer. I block sanded that out and scuffed out all the rough spots near the edges/seams.

There are still quite a few spots that I "can find", but overall, it's looking pretty good, I think.

If you plan on color sanding and buffing the clear coat you need to put at least 4 coats of clear on.

One gallon down. One gallon to go.

Bill,
I bought a gallon of clear and while I was there I got you a respirator.

"The Time" is quickly approaching.

So I was "feeling up" my roof and just didn't like knowing there was hail damage. It's been bugging me so I glazed the roof and here's what I got

More epoxy and surfacer...

Said to heck with it today and spent several hours stripping the urethane off of the windshield lip. I recoated it with PPG epoxy primer and it came out great. Now there's a nice clean lip for the glass guy to put his goop on.

Keep up on the good work.

I own SHOSpazz92's light titanium '89 now, so this is of some interest to me. I need the mirrors painted. :)

How much work do you think you have left before you are ready for the base and clear paint job?

One more thing: Preparation is the absolute key to a quality paint job, so do take your time there. From what I can see with your practice fender, your spraying skill is just fine, regardless of the orange peel texture. That part is fixable if and when you wet sand and buff. Check, double check, and then triple check on everything. Are you going to spray on a light coat of some black paint (guide coat) and block sand the whole car prior to the paint job? I bet that will help you find more low/high spots too.

Are you going to do the engine bay, door jambs, under hood/trunk lid, etc? I think if you have spent this much time preparing your SHO that you should. I did one of my '89's like that a few years ago in black epoxy primer although I didn't go all the way with color afterwards. I did the engine bay with the engine still in, and it was easy. I'll see if I can find a few pictures to post. :)
