I have been having shifting problems for awhile....

This week i tried some Dr. Tranny "Instant Shutter Fix"

Two days later it is not better and i get the service engine soon code "P1744"

What do I do now.... will replacing the torque convertor fix this or will it have to be a complete rebuild..............................

P1744 is TCC Stuck off. The lock up clutch in the converter is controled by the tcc solenoid in the transmission. Could be a bad converter ( But I doubt it ) and could be in the transmission. ( Most likely. )

You are due for your 100k rebuild. Have a quality shop do your rebuild, have a trans-go shift kit installed, and make sure that you get a rebuilt torque converter too. Also, now is the time to add that external cooler.

Good Luck.

Looking at the history of your posts, you have had transmission problems for a while huh? Time to face the facts. It is time for a rebuild.

My P1744 was caused by a bad bushing on the pump drive shaft. Doug Lewis fixed it for $500 IIRC. I believe it was something that could be fixed without removing the tranny. I believe he accessed it through the side pan on the tranny. There's a TSB about this one.

talked to a ford mechanic and he said to check the fluid levels when the car is hot.... and then to let it sit overnight and check it the next morning... the level was greatly higher when it was cold.... what does this say... he mentioned something about not letting fluids into the inner tansmission or something like that....
