My SHO is a '95 ATX. I have noticed that when I'm driving in traffic, the temp. gauge goes dangerously high. As soon as the traffic clears, and going at highway speeds, the temperature drops. The same driving with the A/C on, the temperature always stays in the middle of the temp. gauge.
After arriving home one day with the A/C not running, I checked the fans, and found they were not running. As soon as I put on the A/C, both fans began to run.
Does the integrated control module control the low speed fan when the temperature is above a certain point with the A/C off?
I'm suspecting a bad integrated control module, am I right?

Do a search for flex-a-lite 31147 and read that thread. This switch is one cure even it is your CCRM. The fact that your fans run when the A/C is on is very good.

The IRCM takes its' commands from the PCM which gets advice from the ECT sensor(two wire sensor on the drivers side water distribution manifold) as to what the engine's coolant temperature is at. The temperature guage in the dash gets its' information from a different sensor (a single wire sensor just to the right of the other one). Check the two wire one.

If the fans dont turn on when the temps get high, but do when you turn on the AC or defrost, then the ECT sensor is more than likely failed.

that's confusing. it sounds like normal operation to me. if the temp stays in the middle of the factory gauge, that's normal - hence why it says "normal" between the blue and red tick marks. the only time i would worry about something is if the needle went way towards the red mark when you definitely know the engine is cold. the sho normally runs hot, especially in stop and go city traffic.
