A month ago i replace my crank seal, crank sensor, timing belt, thermostat and water pump. Now with the temp. in the 30's my temp gauge is going past N in normal. I believe I hear my fan coming on, but I'm not too sure. When I get off of work today, I will stand in front of my car with the hood up while it's idling, to make sure the fan is actually working. There is also no smell or leak of antifreeze, so I really don't know what else it could be. Any body ever had a problem like this before?

Are you missing the plastic strip that's mounted to the bottom of the front subframe crossmember? If you are, air will not make it into the radiator, and the car will overheat.

If you don't burp the radiator that will happen, too. I've had to burp mine two or three times before I got all the air out. Hopefully you used the T-stat with the jiggle valves...

 Reaching are we? Hopefully we're joking there. That piece may help when moving, but it will NEVER
make a car overheat.

I'd double check fan operation, thermostat operation (IE feel the upper hose and make sure it gets hot) and obviously before any of the above, check the coolant level.

I don't know what year SHO you have but I know the Gen 2 have two fans and if one goes doesn't come on then your car will run a little hot. You could be hearing only one of the fans working.

I've heard of plenty of peoples' cars that began overheating because their plastic strip was gone. What, you think I'm making this shit up?

Personally, on a Gen 2, I HAVE seen the car overheat without that plastic strip along the bottom of the radiator....

I had coolant bubbling out the overflow... replaced the plastic strip and had no overheating problems after that...

to start check the fan when the car is running, if you have the climate control on "auto" you will always have a fan running and when the car reaches halfway on the gauge then the other fan will run also. if they arent turning on then check the harness connectors at the temp sensors to make sure they are both connected properly. you may have bumped something while playing under the hood.

Well I checked on my over heating issues over the week end and found only the passenger side fan came on when the needle went half way. I did notice a little drip of coolant coming from the upper hose, but nothing that should make the vehicle over heat.

Gary H- I have a 1995 auto w/the climate control. I never used the climate control before, but I'll give it a try later and see if the other fan comes on in this mode.

Pita SHO-I'll check to make sure there is no air pockets. I'll also check the T-stat, since I'm not sure what kind was put in.

St. Louis SHO- The coolant level is good, if I could get that second fan to work, then I will go buy the Thermostat with the jiggle vales.

Thanks all!

According to the mechanic, I need a cooling fan assembly. One of the fans (bigger one) isn't working. I found a junk yard that has two sho's sitting in the back, so I'll stop by there after work. I also thought I seen some kind of recall on this a while back, but not sure. I have a 1995 auto, with 150,*** miles, but I'm sure the recall was a few years after the vehicle was built. If I call my local Ford dealer do you think they will be able to replace that part for me, no charge?

Doubtful. I don't recall a recall (pun intended) for the fans, but you can give it a shot. I think the chances of the dealer doing it for free are about as good as the chances of McCain winning the election... oh yeah, I just went there.

The motors are not that hard to replace. Two bolts hold it in on the top, then you just angle it out and pull up. The motor probably went south on you; RockAuto sells the motor assemblies.

I can vouch for this when I had my 89 Caprice cop car. I ripped the strip off landing from a jump. "Insert Beastie Boyz music".

I called Ford and I was told there were no out standing recalls on my vehicle. I went to the junk yard and pulled a cooling fan assembly from another 95. My main fan (drivers side) siege, and wont turn, even when I try to turn it with my hand.
