My tranny seems to have failed on me, I only have first gear now, once it shifts out of 1st (to go into 2nd), it goes into neutral instead, and wont go back into first until the speed drops back down under 10 mph. It also makes a horrible grinding noise when in park or neutral. (however no noise when in drive). Any thoughts on what went wrong? It seemed to happen overnight.

Also, any opinions about bringing an ATX to AAMCO?

Thanks guys.

Just do your homework on the shop. Make sure you have a good feeling about the work that they are going to do. See if it is clean, talk to some of the techs. Talk with the rebuilder. Ask him if there is anything he can do to make it stronger.

If you get a good response from him, then he will take pride in his work. Doing an excellent job for you. If the place is a dive, and they are not great people to deal with, keep looking.

Not all AAMCO's are good. Not all are bad, some of us really know our stuff :naughty:

Good Luck.

They seem to be competent and are giving me phone updates as they go. Seems the quote is $1295 for rebuilding (including labor) of the 'soft parts', such as gaskets, clutch-plates, and that sort. They will figure out if theres any hard-parts broken, and will advise me further, any of these parts will add to the 1300 already quoted. Overall the guys seemed pretty good and seemed to take pride in their jobs.
