i drive a 94 ATX and ever since i had an engine swap (rod bearings went out) it keeps eating up the trannys, they last about 2-5 months and then they are shot......usually burning up the clutches. everytime they install a new torque conv. too. i know the E4 isnt exactly a "good" tranny but good god......whats the deal!? I drive very easy, well an occasional fast paced ride, but its not shifting a lot,(held at steady speed). also note the care does need new upper gaskets on the engine (oil plug seals) but that shouldnt have anything to do with the tranny? someone help me out here......im tired of this POS in the shop all the time (thank god for warrentys).....would a trans go kit help?

Sounds like an issue with the shop rebuilding the trannys. I had a similar issue with a shop dealing with my tranny. After two rebuilds close to each other, I told the shop they were to buy a rebuilt tranny from Ford and install it. I saw the invoice, and that is what they did. No problems. Some people can do these trannys really well, and others well they just can't.

My 95 has almost 151k on it. No problems :). Maybe the original owner before my dad had it rebuilt, because it shifts like new.

Original owner: bought in May of 1995 - Sold it in 1997 to Caliber Motors (Benz dealership).
Father: Bought in 1997 and drove it from Yorba Linda to Fontana (~40 miles 1 way) 7 days a week for almost 5 years.
Me: Was given the car with 140k miles, rebuilt the engine at 147k, rear ended a Benz S500 at 149,*** and a friend punched it out and bondoed it, replaced the cam sensor and IAB at 150,800.
Now: runs like a new car :).

did they even hook the transmission cooler lines back up or just loop them? There's no way they should be burning up clutches that fast unless they're just putting in standard taurus materials...

Yeah they fluched the cooler and have checked the flow...its all good.........usually when the tranny is about to got out it will shift really hard at times.....also when comming to a fast stop you can really feel it downshifting, but this is usually right before it goes out
