It's a "motor", actually.

Motor:
A machine, esp. one powered by electricity or internal combustion, that supplies motive power for a vehicle or for some other device

Engine:
A machine with moving parts that converts power into motion

Moving parts: Engines have them. Motors don't.
Converts power to motion: Both have them but a motor can usually convert motion to power, also.

Furthermore; If y'all'd like we can talk about the difference of the two terms when being used in cars.

For instance, When you say "Motor" I assume the engine and accessories, clutch, flywheel...When you say engine, I think ... well...only the engine.
Um, yes they do.
and yes technically your correct, but i worked as an RC Tech at a Hobby Shop for 3 years and me and every other RC Employee that worked there, if someone came in and asked for a motor, they got a motor, asked for an Engine, they got an Engine, not the other way around.

SO what is the verdict? Did he put it back together? those bearings look as sick as the ones that came out of my 92. Except that my rodcaps werent tore up like that and that engine still spun another bearing.

incorrect...
had 1 202k original... spun a rod
bought a 27k and swapped it in... unfortunately, it also spun a rod. only drove it 2 days. it was just a sad case of bad luck

now, im rebuilding it. 3.2l, all new everything besides the rotating assembly which has had its machine work. currently putting it together. just set everything up in the basement for the rebuild.

I'm sorry to beat a dead horse, but I have the SAME EXACT sounds as whats going on in that guys video. Knocking coming from intake manifold area. Sounds EXACT to my knocking. Do I also have thrown rod bearings?

I got a DUI one night from going over 150+ mph in my SHO. When I pulled it out of impound the next day, this is the noise it made. I've had this noise for 2-3 years and drove it while it knocks like this with no incident.

If my engine is shot as well, does anyone know where I could pick one up in Michigan or any Michigan mechanics want to make a little $ doing an engine swap?

Trust me, I'm not proud of it. I was 19 at the time on a "closed course" you could say. Airport tunnel system with the only traffic being same-way traffic and the road was clear because it was 3amish. The only downside is I blew by a cop while he was on an entrance ramp to get onto the road I was on.

I dont even drink anymore due to the mishap. I learned my mistake. This isnt about me tho, or trying to clear my name. Its about if I have a "junk" engine or not if I have the same sound coming from my intake manifold as the video in the first post shows.

Shit, you got a stock ATX to 150+?

Anyways - does it run like shit? Like it's down on power? Could be the timing belt tensioner. If you've driven it for 2-3 years I really doubt it ate a rod bearing...

It has the same exact noise coming from the original posters Youtube video. I drove it for approximately 2 years while delivery driving at that, so about 100-150 miles onto the car per day.

I dont detect a loss of power. She definitely still gets up and goes. Able to throw you back into your seat still. I actually replaced my timing belt tensioner while replacing my timing belt 2 months ago because I broke it while trying to take it off. It has still ran the same, pre-timing belt.

I never found it to be an issue. Its just more of an attention getter and everyone stares at your car making some weird sound. As long as my engine isnt going to magically blow, then I should be ok.

They said the noise from the video meant spun rod bearings, which is why I asked if thats the same problem I have if I have the EXACT same sound going on as the guy in the youtube video.

Its like a clicking or ticking. Gets more rapid with more gas. Sound quells itself when you release the gas. Still makes a sound at idle.

And yes it's stock ATX over 150+. I recall clearly that the speedo was max'd out and the engine RPMs were still climbing rapidly. I had 1-2 miles of road to be able to achieve this on, and I powered down at approx. 150ish. Thats when I saw the lights behind me :( And thats how I increased my insurance premiums to higher than everyone elses here, still to this day!

Trust me, you can't learn engineering at an RC shop. Most of them don't even know that a sensorless brushless motor STILL sends a signal to tell the speed controller about what it's position is.

Oh, and:

Indeed Hence why there are 3 wires, Positive, Negative and a signal! Sorry my apologies.

Wait, why exactly have we been thinking Zach is the failbot here? I think we need to alter that status.
