I see where Sam is coming from. Nothing wrong with a passionate debate, but unfortunately some lack the capacity to distinguish between a debate and a personal attack. Unfortunately, these folks do not limit themselves to online forums as they walk among us, as well. My thought: use whatever oil your research and conscious dictates. Save the name calling for the Chevy forums. . Enjoy your SHO and relax.

The reason why Ford switched to 5w30 in the EB is below. This is directly from Shoblock, who is the man when it comes to technical data about the 3.5 EB, since he built them.

I remember the debacle on the floor when multiple engines had to be drained and returned for the correct oil. The operations manager pleaded with engineering to let those motors keep the lighter weight oil accidentally added. (Afternoon shift, of course!) The fact that Detroit engineering would not relent meant that the clearances in the updated turbo motors, and the extra heat generated, warranted the higher vis oil. Thousands of hours hot testing motors with both oils, and the subsequent teardowns and measuring worn parts to the micron, told engineers we needed the heavier oil across the board on turbo motors. Non-turbo motors get better gas mileage with 5w-20, but durability is more important to ecoboosts.
Thanks for asking.

Well dang! Maybe I WILL put some lightweight shockproof in the engine. If going from 5w-20 to 5w-30 is better, then going to a 75w-90 should be awesome!

Yeah....joking.

I'll say I put 5W20 in my perf pack and my car made noises I did not like. I promptly changed it.

There's three things I learned about the SHO community.

1:They will spend money on anything for their car whether it does anything or not, even if it hurts it.
2: There will be drama and fighting
3: they will absolutely hack up their car even if its expensive and hurts performance, safety, mpg,and reliability.
4: there will absolutely be drama and fighting.

I feel like that hacking up the car quote was specifically targeted towards me. haa

Death before stock. Our cars have terrible aftermarket. So I build things. I'm sure I've voided my ESP warranty by now.
