The other day I was driving when the oil warning light came on. I quickly pulled off and shut down the engine. I checked the oil level which was only approx. 1/2 qt low. So, I restarted the engine and the light did not return. Since I've topped it off and again the light has not come back on. The strange thing is in the past I've been approx. 1 qt low and the light has not come on. No knocking or any other noise and still runs very strong! Any ideas?? Milage is approx. 190K.

Replace the oil pressure sending unit; costs about $5 from the dealer and screws into the block on the firwewall side of the engine. IF the light comesw on after that, Rod bearings may be going ?

Are you referring to the yellow oil level warning light or the red oil pressure warning light?
