Wondering if anyone has replaced the oil pump on a 3.0 MTX ? I done changed all rod bearings and the oil light flickers after the car warms up to temperature and also still has a slight tapping or knocking at the topend of the motor

did you plastigage the bearings? what were the clearances?

the oil pump slips on over the end of the crank, so you need the pan off and all the pulleys etc. off the crank to change it.

Agree with above. The oil pump may be bad-- but it also sometimes happens that if you do bearings after a certain wear or failure point, then there may be damage that you haven't been able to see easily. If so, it could fail again in short order because there is physical damage that hasn't been remedied. We've seen this reported on this forum more than a few times. Something to be aware of.

If you have to pull the pan off to get to the pump anyway, maybe you should try and measure the clearance with the new bearing in place. If it was really far gone there could be wear on the crank, cap or rod to make it out too far out of spec or out of round.

if the bearing was that beat up there is a very high probability that the crank journal has been damaged.

There's not much to go wrong in the OP. Pickup tube clear and gasket in place?
