Stop driving the car immediately.Don`t drive it to the shop, don`t move it to another part of the driveway. The rod bearings are shot, and it will take out the crank if you continue to drive it.There may already be damage to it.

Could be in the oil sending system but Jeremy is right. I would park it, drop the oil pan and get some plasti-gauge in there and check those bearings. New ones aren't that expensive but spinning one will be.

How low did the idle speed drop to and what oil brand and weight is in the engine?

Yeah, it's possible there is a non-rod bearing issue, but best to play it safe - go buy a cheap gauge & sender at Autozone, replace the factory pressure gauge & see what you're really running for pressure & at what rpm & engine temp. The sooner the better & don't drive it like the guys mention until you're sure. My pressure light came on also recently & it was a bad sender, but best to play it safe & KNOW for sure.

best of luck

Yes, no...not neccessarily. Like the other guys said, replace the sender and get a gauge on there. My light was on earlier in the year (circa January), and there's not a thing wrong with my car. Just some crud got stuck in the sending unit or it went bad, not entirely sure which since I replaced it... I've got 18psi at idle when the car is at normal operating temp, about 65psi peak. I had a sunpro mechanical gauge on the car, but it's since been removed. They're cheap, something like 15 bucks or so. It's worth your money to get one to be sure.

I agree with the direction Scott is heading! I wouldn't drive it though until I found out if it was the sending unit or something more serious.

Too low an idle speed and the oil pump won't turn fast enough to provide the volume of pressurized oil necessary for the engine.

The reason i don`t believe it to be the sender is that it will go out with a quick rev.Either way,the only way to go is to stop driving it immediately and find out.

Now, I am only speaking out of my own experience, so DO NOT take this as being your own problem.

I had a similar problem with mine, but it only happened when I slowed the car to a stop VIA 1st gear, on a slight incline and when it was REALLY hot.

I noticed that my revs dropped to 3-400rpm, and the temp guage was close to N.

Since then, I have reset my idle air program, and switched from Castrol Syntec 5w30 to Castrol GTX 10w30, and have not seen the light. (also seems to have temporarily stopped the front main seal leak the Syntec had caused!)

However, I do recommend not driving the car until you determine what the exact cause is.

Cheers beer
