there is oil on my spark plugs, does that mean the seals around the spark plug wells are gone or can that be caused by the valve cover gasket being blown?

The oil in the plug wells means the plug well seals need to be replaced. I would just order a plug well seal/valve cover gasket kit from midwestSHO. It will set you back $100 but it's worth replacing the gaskets when you have the valve covers off. Welcome to the forum thumb

Better place to get the valve cover seal kit is from Autozone. It's only $80 and you don't pay shipping. Special order part usually, but shouldn't take long to get in. There's been a bunch of posts recently with the part number if you need it, I don't have it right on hand.
