There is a lot of oil on my spark plugs, and I have noticed a decrease in gas milage as well as a small decrease in power. Could these things be linked? I have the felpro gasket set with seals, do I also need to use any rtv when putting the new gaskets in?
thanks

I would say they probably are not linked, but others will say they are.

Most recommend that you use a dab of RTV to hold the seal on the valve cover during installation so that it doesnt roll on y ou. (especially for the rear valve cover)

yes that will help with power loss I just did mine this weekend. You need to put gasket glue on the ends of the valve covers you might want to change the plugs and wires if you can that will help too. And you might need a Intake gasket if yours has any missing black stuff on it. Mine started to miss becouse of the oil it fowels out the plugs and makes the rubber on plugwires corrode.

i just did valve cover gaskets, plugs, wires, and new vacuum hoses on my sho. i reused the old gaskets (they were not in terrible shape). clean everything well first, i used varsol and lots of shop rags. put a small constant bead of gasket maker along the whole length in the grove of the valve cover. put the gaskets in the grove, press them in. then apply another small constant bead on the head, and a lil extra in the corners and grooves. so far soooo good! i put extra on the the plug well seals too...you really need it most here. put gasket maker on the valve cover, and then on the plug well seal, and then squish it on! i got the new gasket set for the intake though ($100 canadian! that sucks), i needed the upper intake to lower intake gasket for sure, mine was chipping away, and half was stuck on upper, and some on lower intake. carefully scrape that off, and wipe clean. i also took apart and clean my intake...what fun was that! 2 bottles of carb/throttle body cleaner later, and i could have used another 1/2- full bottle of that stuff too, but it was looking much better, and i had had enough fun that day.

The valve cover gaskets are meant to be dry gaskets, except where they meet the cam 'humps' where you put a dab of it in the corners to ensure the seal.
