LOL@ at all the people on here who say replace the RBs everytime the oil light comes on. The oils pressure switch does fail and I am sure it fails alot more often than RBs.

When my light came on, a new sensor fixed the problem, and been driving it 3 years since. Has 150k and original rod bearings and runs smooth as silk. .oops, ..Murphys law, it'll spin one next time driving now.... seriously though, I've owned the car since almost new, so know the history, and it always has fresh oil and never been bogged, which is what kills RB's. Some have gone 200k, changed them and not much wear seen while other lost engines with half that mileage. IF you dont know the history, change them soon, but if the light goes out after the sensor is replaced, I wouldnt just park it or feel rushed to do it right away either. RB's are going to be changed on mine in the near future for peace of mind, so it will be interesting to see what they look like.

listen to the guys symptoms....

flutters at lower rpm's(low oil pressure)

solid on at idle(even lower oil pressure)

low oil pressure most often associated with what on a SHO engine?

rod bearings...........

of course if you wanted to stop being internet mechanics, you'd hook up a gauge and really know for sure if its the sensor.....

I tell this guy this so he doesn't get in his car tomorrow and drive it 50 miles and blow the engine, this is a serious thing that needs figuring out before the engine runs much longer.

we aren't here for humor in this section or debates, people's cars are at stake here

if this happened to my personal car, I would be calling a tow truck as soon as I saw the light acting up.... might sound funny at first, but its the best thing in the long run

always cover your ass

if the light was on all the time, not on at all, and the engine still ran perfectly after many weeks of driving, hey I'd suspect the oil sending unit at that time

always cover your ass

I had the same symptoms he had and I replaced the oil pressure switch and all was well. My SHO has 280k, I replaced the oil pressure switch three times, once at 115k, 200k and at 280k. I just did my RB at about 275k. The first two times my light would flicker at low RPMs and go away as the RPMs went up and the third time the light wouldn't wotk at all.

I'm not saying it isn't the RBs, it might be but if it was my car I would try the pressure switch first.

before you go buy the bearing set take off the oil pan and have a look to see it the crank is damaged. if it is,don't waist your money.

Those are symptoms of the switch going bad, mine did that same thing, and fixed it for $15; still on the original stock RB's 3 years later.
NOw if you are hearing rod knock and the light is fluttering, that is RB's

i had a 92 and this happened so i know all about it to well. But, no this one is just missing peices on the rims.... Just off balance and some idiot who had it before me broke a bolt in it trying to get it out i figured a pulley puller that goes around it to get it off due to the bolt borken in it :(
