’92 SHO -

About a week ago I came to a stop after about a 10 mile drive, and the engine stalled when I pushed the clutch in. When I started it up, it began running rough, and would not idle – had to keep it revved over 1,200 or so. Also, and more alarming, once it stalled the first time in this incident, the oil light began coming on at around 1,000 r’s. It has never done this before, not even a flicker.

Got back home and ran the codes, got this:

225 – knock sensor not detected

511 – PROM failure

512 – keep alive memory test failure

Important note: I do have a twEECer installed, so it seems the code reader might set the 511 and 512 codes because it doesn’t recognize the twEECer interface. The twEECer is set to recognize a Lincoln MAF, so again, not standard.

After the test, and the code reader cleared the memory codes, the engine ran smoothly again, but the oil light continues to come on at 1,000 r’s. Which does concern me. Can an oil pump be replaced by pulling the pan? Is there some way to hook up a gauge and test the oil pressure before doing all that?

The 225 knock sensor code is a mystery, unless that is a function of timing changes made by the twEECer. Of course, if that sensor is bad, then a manifold removal is in order. Oh well…

All ideas appreciated! And thanks!

How many miles on your SHO? How long have you had the Tweecer installed, and what issues have you had since installing it? If the code is to be believed, may be a wiring problem with the sensor. Code readers don't do so well with OBDI setups, so the paperclip method is recommended instead. You can video the flashes if you like to make it a bit easier.

Since you have not mentioned it, I assume you checked the engine/oil filter area for leaks, and the oil for level & condition. What oil/filter are you running? When was the last front 60K done?

Did you check to see if the connection was loose at the pcm? Those things have a habit of losing contact and throwing codes and running funny. Any other mods other than MAF?

The twEECer has been in for about 8,000 miles, no issues so far. How warm does the engine have to be for the KOER test to be accurate? It may not have been fully warm when I ran that test. I haven't heard any part throttle knocking, though.

The car/engine has about 185 G, the rod bearings were replaced about 27,000 miles ago.

No oil leaks, the oil is up to near full, about 3,200 since the last oil change. I'm running Castrol SynBlend 10/30 and a Motorcraft oil filter. The timing belt (and crank pos sensor) were changed around 30,000 miles ago.

I'll check the connection that you mention here. If my sig. shows you can see the mods. They are all external (intake/exhaust stuff).
Thanks!
